I tried a new spot over the weekend which turned out to be my best spot ever. Considering I've been detecting for more than 30 years, that's going some. This new spot started out with a draped bust large cent and although I can only see a 7 in the date, that's getting back there. The next hole I dug was probably my most exciting coin hole ever. I got a nice double tap sound and after pin pointing I dug down and popped out an 1878 Seated Quarter. Double checking the hole and getting another sound I was thrilled at the possibility of pulling out another seated quarter. It wasn't to be as the next coin out was an 1872-S seated half dollar. Didn't have much time as I had to go pick up my daughter and that was all that I found. Next day I went back in the woods and headed over to the same spot. Not far away I got a nice hit and out popped an 1873 closed date Indian cent. I thought this is great. I double checked the hole and again got another hit. Turns out to be an 1876-S seated quarter. I thought I died and went to metal detector heaven. Continuing on near a small old creek bed I get another hit. This wasn't as strong as the others, but certainly worth digging. After digging down about 6" along a slope out pops a small silver coin. My first thought was a 3 cent silver. My friend Conrad found 7 of them in the last year and I wanted one too. It was really worn and after taking a closer looked I figured it was too large for a 3 cent silver. It was a 1/2 real. It was mighty worn, but it was still a half real. After a while not finding anything I was starting to think there was just one small area with coins. I started working my way out towards the car and get another signal. Dug down and popped out an 1892 Indian. Of course I double checked the hole, but there was nothing there. I did get another signal about 3 feet away and quite deep I pulled out a button about the size of a nickel. What I can read on the back says "stand colour". Don't know much about it. Was running out of gas at this point and the back doesn't hold up as well as it used to, but I did get one more hit that turned out to be a 1902 Indian. Evidently I have to go back, but what a great weekend. After finding an 1782 2 Real the weekend before along with a high grade 1820 large cent, an 1817 large cent, old constable badge and pocket watch in a different town I didn't expect to have this kind of weekend two weeks in a row.
