Hey everyone,
Today's hunt started like all the rest but about an hour into it, I got a nice read on my T2 and dug a crusty LC. After that, I decided to grid the surrounding area. About 2ft from the LC I found one of the seated quarters. At this point quite excited. Not long after I got another LC, and then another and another and another and then another!! I was ecstatic at this point. I took my haul back to the car and gave it a few more swings in my gridded area. I sure am glad I did because I found another seated quarter and a few feet from that....AN 1838 BUST HALF DOLLAR. This was a first for me! I actually ended up licking the obverse side of it in the field because I wasn't carrying any water. :laughing7: All three of the silvers are in fantastic condition. The one quarter is absolutely stunning. I took pictures of them before rinsing the dirt off, after rinsing, and after some light brushing with a Qtip. The copper are all large cents from the 1830s and 1840s. I believe this all was either part of a cache or someone lost a change purse in the 1840s or 1850s. In addition to the coins, I found a quartz arrowhead, a few musket balls and a few buttons. Truly a hunt to remember......

Congrats on the banner! Great finds.

Shew, It did in fact make the banner! Yes the delay was due to the fact that not one of the finds had enough votes to
count as a banner find. Very happy to see that the votes were put together to put this hunt up on banner. Thanks again everyone for the support!

That's a crazy hunt! Was it local for you? It'd heartening to know there's still finds to be had in the area! Best of luck and HH!

Glad to see this banner day up top where it belongs. Few will EVER do this in their lifetimes. The quality of the silver by itself is jaw dropping. :notworthy:

Bear with me on this one, but I think this might highlight a 'gap' in the banner process.

Lets assume for a minute that not 'any one' of those coins/finds are in themselves a 'banner worthy' find. (Like I say, that maybe debatable)

When you take all those great finds together, its no doubt a 'BANNER DAY'. Maybe we need to pay more attention to the aggregation of finds on 1 day & clarify the rules to include days like this.

I know the MODs are going to hate me debating this, but I think it worthy of thought.

PS> I too didn't vote thinking it would make it, so guess what I'm now doing....

I like the way you think

Congrats to CC2

Yes it was indeed local! Yes they're out there but getting more and more scarce. I've found quite a few great things in Lancaster so keep up the search!

It still boggles my mind...
Somehow these have been sitting undisturbed for so darn long, Nobody found it when it was originally dropped.
Nobody has swing over them before to recover and they literally just sit... undisturbed, waiting for you or I to find and recover.

Fantastic Dig, HH

Congrats on BANNER #3. Looks like I better go find something killer to catch up 8-)

That's one heck of a hunt! Nice finds! Congrats!

Awesome hunt! Those are some great finds how did that bust taste?:)))))))

Certainly deserving of the Banner! All of those silvers are in wonderful condition. What a thrilling hunt! Congratulations.

Freaking awesome finds. You must have been besides yourself!!

that soil is hard on coppers and kind to silver....Congrats on the recoveries & making the banner .... Awesome !!!!!

Congrats on the Banner !!!!!!!!!!!!! Very much deserved (applause)

Wow! Just wow! Congrats on making the Banner!

I don't know how I got here so late on this one but, this is stunning.

I don't know anything about the vote count, I think it has a lot to do with the new pics. you added today. Which I mentioned on page 2 you should do.

I've seen a capped half (alone) on the banner that was no better than yours, so....

Suit yourself on the grading company's "opinion" but that will just eat a hole into the coins value. Out of curiosity what do you think they will give on the '44 ?

And congrats on a great hunt, may there be more in your future....mine too, haha.
