Hey everyone,
Today's hunt started like all the rest but about an hour into it, I got a nice read on my T2 and dug a crusty LC. After that, I decided to grid the surrounding area. About 2ft from the LC I found one of the seated quarters. At this point quite excited. Not long after I got another LC, and then another and another and another and then another!! I was ecstatic at this point. I took my haul back to the car and gave it a few more swings in my gridded area. I sure am glad I did because I found another seated quarter and a few feet from that....AN 1838 BUST HALF DOLLAR. This was a first for me! I actually ended up licking the obverse side of it in the field because I wasn't carrying any water. :laughing7: All three of the silvers are in fantastic condition. The one quarter is absolutely stunning. I took pictures of them before rinsing the dirt off, after rinsing, and after some light brushing with a Qtip. The copper are all large cents from the 1830s and 1840s. I believe this all was either part of a cache or someone lost a change purse in the 1840s or 1850s. In addition to the coins, I found a quartz arrowhead, a few musket balls and a few buttons. Truly a hunt to remember......

That's one hell of a good day out!

Wow not just the amount of nice finds but incredible shape on those silvers

Thanks everyone! I'm ever-so grateful!

I think we may have to test that detector for steroids...That is an awesome day...Congrats

Congratualtions on the Awesome hunt! :occasion14:

I love finding the old coppers and silver too...Yours are in beautiful condition.

Ooh mama! Those slivers are about as nice as they could possibly be! Good job, that was quite the hunt!!

It's always one signal and one hole that starts it all... and damn did it start it for you! Those are the type of coins you could put in a 2x2 and throw on a dealers table. mark a high grade, and no one would have a clue they were dug. it's surprising the coppers aren't a little better, but who cares, and they still addto the total and the story of the hunt.

Looks like you win the gold medal in treasure hunting for today! :treasurechest::notworthy:

That is a great haul - congrats!

Amazing hunt! Those coins are in stunning condition.

You really hit the Jackpot.
Although the face value of those coins totals $1.06,,
I bet you could get more than a loaf of bread for one of those Large Cents. Congrats on an unbelievable hunt.

Thanks IP! I too was surprised how nice of condition the silvers are in. I can't believe years of plowing haven't knicke them up. As far as the coppers go, there's a lot of meat on them so I have a feeling they were real decent when they were lost it's just that the soil is ROUGH around here. Thanks again

What an awesome hunt, looking at those silvers over the morning coffee gets the juices flowing and inspiration for today's hunt. Digging just one of those silvers would make my fall season end on a real high note that would carry me through to next spring. Three beauties in your mitt that would make any display look great. Congrats!

Holly Smoke !
Lots of posts mentions great condition, but you really have it, on all the silvers.
Super glad you took the dirty pics. I couldn't imagine myself finding a nice half without a dirty pic. to go with it.
Yes probably a hunt of a lifetime. I think banner hunt. I'd add a good close up of the head side of the silvers, you know for the banner spot that should come shortly.
Big congrats, Big memory.

That's a coinshooters DREAM hunt! I think I dreamt of something similar to that the other night. Huge congrats!
