It is that time of year again. The sun is low in the sky, and the cold winds are blowing. I am starting to see those posts titled "My last hunt of the year".

What was your best find of the year for 2009? I am hoping to get at least one more hunt in, but looking at the long range forecast, I am no so sure it is likely.

Here is my best of 2009, a very scarce variety of a 1798 Draped bust in awesome shape. It was found about 14 inches down back in April. It is a tough decision as I had my best year ever, but this is my winner.

Lets see your BEST OF 2009!!

I'm not posting the Royal Artillery belt plate...this is my second favorite find of 09...1690s French colonial coin spill.

Some good ones, but even those will be pretty stale by April!

I'm already pinching my pennies!!!

I just received some news.... either I'll be pinching my pennies way more than expected, or have a pile of extra kicking around. Just a choice I gotta make, but regardless I'll be ready to dig.

I can't decide which one was my favorite. The Union 3 ringer or the bullet mold. Either way, I'm lucky to have found either one.

"I know my best finds pale in comparison but I will list my best two: a George Washington Button in rough condition "

Jim, you left out the part about your GW being the only one of that particular design to exist! :icon_thumleft: :hello2: :headbang:

Neil, that is one fantastic find. What detector were you using? 14" doubles my deepest coin.
Were you hunting in all metal?

I was using the DFX. I wish I could remember whether I was in 3Khz or Best Data. I thought I was using the Super 12 coil, but I just looked back at my log and noticed I was using the Stock coil. I always use Mixed Mode on both the DFX and the V3. It is a hybrid of All Metal mode and Discriminate (motion) mode. It was only a tiny blip near the dime range of the DFX. So weak that I almost walked away. It pinpointed at 9 inches, deep enough to investigate further. After digging a nice plug, and totally losing the signal, I finally found it at the side of the bottom of the hole. I was expecting a square nail when I pulled this out.

This being my first year on land, after being a sand flea for years, my best find this year was this 14th century hand cannon, one of the first ever hand guns made in history.

I remember the post. We can only dream of finds like that on this side of the pond!

I like those 1700s Large cents and think it would rank as best for almost anyone on here.

My best was my token I parted with, but after that early silver has been pretty scarce for me the last few years so this was a good keeper for me for 2009.

IP: You had many finds that would blow away my best!

For me so far it would have to be what we have come to a conclusion being a 12th corps CW Military Star attachment. I'm told by the guys that it's a one of a kind, never dug relic. It can be seen in next month's issue of American Digger Magazine.

That one is going to be a hard one to beat! It may be your lifetime best!!! Congrats on the ADM feature!!

I love the finds you guys have posted so far! :icon_thumleft: Finds for me have been less this year, as I've been concentrating more on two very worked out areas which have finally required a lot of trenching and sifting to get to depth. The other locations have been the marsh where finds are very few. The finds have been interesting though, and at the end of the year I'll post them all. Still a couple weeks left! :D

The year's best large cent find condition-wise is this 1798. My best button find is probably my best of any kind ever, as it is rarer than most George Washington buttons. It is this James Monroe Inaugural button (Albert PC 75), one of only two known which includes the Albert example.

Johnny you have some great finds as well. I always look forward to your posts!!

This is my first year Md. My best find is a baby US belt buckle from the 1830's with the maker's mark J.I. Pittman. HH.Tex

Great find Jim!!

Wow, some great looking coins! Neil, again, what a beautiful coin you found! (I piled on the kudos on the DFX Only site way back when he found that beauty). To answer folks' questions regarding the SLQ I posted, I did send it in for grading. If it weren't for the penny I sent in at the same time, I'd have paid more for the grading than the coin was worth. But I couldn't let the possibility of having an 8 over 7 SLQ go unresolved. Here's the photo, and Neil, sorry about trampling all over your post~Greg

Thanks Greg! And no worries. That is what this post is all about. Fantastic finds! Bring on those pics!!

It be hard for me to pick the very best one out as I like alot of things. Any being rare are my favorits.
But If was forced to pick out some they would include this year
2 spanish 1reals cobs
1 1669 tobacco token from Leeds england
1750-1760 Mallet style bottle Very rare here to find whole
2 Rev War buttons
And the Bison skull cap would be another very rare find to come across here dated 20,000 to 250,000 years old by a president of the N.C. fossil club
The intact indian celt
I guess though the spoon mold would rate at the top for me as it stired the most interest!
They are all here http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,277017.0.html
Also someone mentioned about the forum as being one also.I would agree with that to as it's been fun talking with and seeing you guy's finds as they are found in other places.I've learned alot and have alot to learn still and always enjoy looking at the other finds being posted and the info that comes from them.
To finsh this Hope you all have a Good Christmas and happy New Year!
And keep the FINDS COMING!!!!!

Seems like you had a great year TK!!!

There've been some amazing finds shown on Tnet this year and I would like to congratulate everyone. I know my best finds pale in comparison but I will list my best two: a George Washington Button in rough condition and my first seated coin (1876 dime).

I remember that GW button and I was cringing with the thought that it would snap in two when you unfolded it!

Great finds!

Congratulations Neil!! I would post my best of 2009 but already sold it. The 1786 Vermont Ryder 6, sold on EBAY for $760 back in June. I found it in March and don't have the pics anymore. Congrats to ALL. :notworthy: Hogge

My best find of the year has to be the 1794 Lib cap largie. 1752 Milled Pillar 1 real is probably next

I would have taken a photo suitable for framing for a coin I sold for $760!!! Oh well, too late for that!

Congrats!!

Awesome digs! I love when dudes from Ohio complain that there is nothing old to be found there. You have proved them wrong!

you're absolutely right neal. ohio has tons of history you just have to do the research first. I'm still waiting for one of the southern ohio guys to find a river pirates den or a stash of muskets from colonial days. all you have to do is look.

thanks for the kind words and happy hunting to all.
