It is that time of year again. The sun is low in the sky, and the cold winds are blowing. I am starting to see those posts titled "My last hunt of the year".

What was your best find of the year for 2009? I am hoping to get at least one more hunt in, but looking at the long range forecast, I am no so sure it is likely.

Here is my best of 2009, a very scarce variety of a 1798 Draped bust in awesome shape. It was found about 14 inches down back in April. It is a tough decision as I had my best year ever, but this is my winner.

Lets see your BEST OF 2009!!

Sorry Neil, I couldn't choose between three....my best year of detecting in 9 years....largely due to advice I received on this and the DFX Only site:

I had an awesome year detecting. DP Bob, you are right. I have found some of the most amazing friends in this hobby and I want to say thanks to all of them for their support this year. You can see my best dug find in my avatar!

neil thats a nice one for sure> my best finds were my 18k/diamonds 1870-1890 french ladies pocket watch. 1877 indian and avatar 1723 hibernia. it was a pretty good year. willy

Neil, that is one fantastic find. What detector were you using? 14" doubles my deepest coin.
Were you hunting in all metal?

Sweet 8 over 7 Standing Liberty  that's what it looks like to me

This being my first year on land, after being a sand flea for years, my best find this year was this 14th century hand cannon, one of the first ever hand guns made in history. I've had some nice offers for it, but can't seem to say "yes", yet. Then my second best find would be my first Roman coin, circa 90 AD.

Is that a 1918/17 Standing Liberty?..It sure looks like it is a possibility.

I like those 1700s Large cents and think it would rank as best for almost anyone on here.

My best was my token I parted with, but after that early silver has been pretty scarce for me the last few years so this was a good keeper for me for 2009.

Since I'm shamefully new to this hobby, I'll say THIS FORUM is my best find of the year. :icon_thumleft:

For me so far it would have to be what we have come to a conclusion being a 12th corps CW Military Star attachment. I'm told by the guys that it's a one of a kind, never dug relic. It can be seen in next month's issue of American Digger Magazine.

I love the finds you guys have posted so far! :icon_thumleft: Finds for me have been less this year, as I've been concentrating more on two very worked out areas which have finally required a lot of trenching and sifting to get to depth. The other locations have been the marsh where finds are very few. The finds have been interesting though, and at the end of the year I'll post them all. Still a couple weeks left! :D

The year's best large cent find condition-wise is this 1798. My best button find is probably my best of any kind ever, as it is rarer than most George Washington buttons. It is this James Monroe Inaugural button (Albert PC 75), one of only two known which includes the Albert example.

That's a pretty good way to remember your first year by! Must be a catridge badge.

Wow, some great looking coins! Neil, again, what a beautiful coin you found! (I piled on the kudos on the DFX Only site way back when he found that beauty). To answer folks' questions regarding the SLQ I posted, I did send it in for grading. If it weren't for the penny I sent in at the same time, I'd have paid more for the grading than the coin was worth. But I couldn't let the possibility of having an 8 over 7 SLQ go unresolved. Here's the photo, and Neil, sorry about trampling all over your post~Greg

Great Stuff Guy's! :icon_thumleft: :icon_thumright: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :headbang:
It be hard for me to pick the very best one out as I like alot of things. Any being rare are my favorits.
But If was forced to pick out some they would include this year
2 spanish 1reals cobs
1 1669 tobacco token from Leeds england
1750-1760 Mallet style bottle Very rare here to find whole
2 Rev War buttons
And the Bison skull cap would be another very rare find to come across here dated 20,000 to 250,000 years old by a president of the N.C. fossil club
The intact indian celt
I guess though the spoon mold would rate at the top for me as it stired the most interest!
Also someone mentioned about the forum as being one also.I would agree with that to as it's been fun talking with and seeing you guy's finds as they are found in other places.I've learned alot and have alot to learn still and always enjoy looking at the other finds being posted and the info that comes from them.
To finsh this Hope you all have a Good Christmas and happy New Year!
And keep the FINDS COMING!!!!!
Hard for me to choose!Being there in there own Category!

Some good ones, but even those will be pretty stale by April!

There've been some amazing finds shown on Tnet this year and I would like to congratulate everyone. I know my best finds pale in comparison but I will list my best two: a George Washington Button in rough condition and my first seated coin (1876 dime).
