best detector for contractor

Usually contractors go for those utility locators which are magnetometers. They will only detect iron and steel not aluminium, copper, etc. For example Magnawand would be an example. See link below. But of course a regular metal detector which you could use for coins and relics also would be more fun.

any Detector that has an all Metal will work.

I have found several Property Pins over the years.
never had any at 12" though. they Must have been under fill.

Most Contractors around here that I have seen with detectors,
seem to Prefer the Whites XLT Though.

Unless Maby They are also into Detecting & brought them from home.

If however you feel you may be looking for underground Pipes also,
Then I'd suggest you Definately go with the Whites XLT
Or the Minelab Sovereign. they would be the easiest to learn.
with the Ability to reach 12" easily.

ok...also a unit that could have pleasure use possibilities and a little more affordable...most pins are less than 6 inches unless covered by fill....thanks...chip

Fisher makes a super Iron detector that is used in construction and surveying. I have used the FX3 and it is deep, +12 inches on corner stakes. See the Fisher Link. http://www.fisherlab.com/industrial/FX3.htm

in that case any whites Prizim series should do.

or maby even the Garrett ace 250 (not sure, but I think it has an all metal Switch)

and they are all Low priced & still can be used for Both.
Work & Pleasure.

A few summers ago I was doing some landscaping for my wifes cousin and used my Whites 5900 Di Pro to find his property marker. It turns out he had about 15 feet more property on one side of his lot than he though he had. It was nice of his neighbor to do the landscaping on that 15 ft section. ;D I've had my 5900 since about 1985 and it still works great. I just wish I had time to use it more often. :'(

thanks for info...ace 250 due in thursday...chip
