Best career hunt~ Morgan Dollar, Seated Quarter + more. (Video&Pics)

Well, I'm finally getting around to posting my finds from the other day. Had a very long and hectic work week.

As many of you have already seen D-Dub's and TreasureFiends finds, it is my turn to show you mine.

It looks that we have come across a virgin site finally) I think we cleaned it up fairly well.

This site is great, since it has been producing nothing but oldies. Went out on Thurs, in hopes of pulling out some Barbers, which we all did, especially D-Dub (10 of them). But then I came across a goofy signal and out came a beautiful 1884-s Morgan dollar. After rescanning the hole, I pulled out 2 V-nickels and 2 IH's (all from the 1800's). Later in the hunt I got a deep silver signal which ended up being my 2nd Seated Quarter for the year, an 1877-s. Video and pics below. Enjoy and HH!

lookn4seated, that is an awsome day of detecting. congrates. What state are you in? It looks like you guys are just out in the middle of the woods some where. Was there a house in the vacinity? What research did you do to lead you to this spot. How far from the nearest building structure were they found? do you think they were lost or burried. any clues as to how they might have gotten there? I am interested so I can apply your efferts to where I hunt in Montana. what is this detector that you are hunting with? Who makes it? Never heard of it. I hunt with an X-terra705 & GPX4000, both Minelabs.

I spend a good amount of $$$ on history books and maps, especially "local" history books which include pictures of how certain areas used to look in the 1800's and compare them to several different types of maps. Maps dating from the 1800's to present. These maps never allign perfectly, since many of them were hand drawn back in the day, and then I start overlaying. From there on It's A LOT of legwork. I can walk ten miles, in circles most of the time, trying to find a hot spot. This one just so happened to be off of a certain road whose history I know pretty well. I spend all winter researching, in hopes of finding a site such as this. I happen to have a few sites in this area that took quite some time to pinpoint, (I was originally off by just over a mile) but I have a feeling I will have to go to my plan B, as I have been hearing of a few MD'ers already "stumbling upon" not only this site, but some others I had lined up. Oh, well! I guess its anybody's game, and whoever gets there first gets the goodies. But no worries, I'm saving my best site for the end of the season, and I'm sure NOBODY will know where it is, as I will not be making a video at all from that site, and will post my finds once I'm done hitting that particular site. Maybe a video in my house from the finds, but that will be it.

soooooo.......research old local history books, old newspaper articles (microfilm) see where people gathered, old picnic groves that are now wooded areas, old plat maps can lead you to where an old "subdivision" may have been. Look for any signs of early human activity such as broken pottery or old broken glass bottles. I always find broken hutch tops at my oldest sites. Hope this helps.

lookn4seated, What kind of detector is that you use? I have never heard of it. Deep Silver Seeker 3000? I looked every where online but could not find it. Shed some light. What are its strengths and weaknesses.?
