Looks like it's missing the nickel silver wreaths or branches that were soldered on either side of the eagle. That's an awesome find! Not the same buckle but I think yours is the 1851 pattern...NCO's and officers wore the one with the wreaths if I remember correctly

I just realized I also found the keeper yesterday as well! Any ideas what this buckle would be worth now?
Nice to find the keeper as well. Value is based on condition, rarity...as well as what someone is willing to pay for it. As far as a dollar amount probably $250 but I'm no expert on that. Check eBay sales to see what other items have sold for.

Personally I hope you keep it but at the end of the day it's yours to do with as you please.

Excellent, the keeper too. Many had production stamp numbers, as these were hand finished and fitted they would stamp the plate and keeper with the same number so that they kept the matching pieces together. I marked where it would be on the plate, and if #'d, the number on the keeper would be on its reverse.

Great military find ! A lot of buckles look to be Civil War, but could actually be from another time period. I thought mine was Civil War (see my Avatar) and it was identified as Indian Wars 1890-1900 era. Hope it turns out to be Civil War for you, if not it's still a great find.

Just found this belt buckle this afternoon at an 1800's homestead. Not sure exactly what it is, seems to be quite a few that look the same but when you look more closely you can see differences.
Awesome!!! Sword Belt Plate Civil War!!! Congrats!!!
