Below freezing metal detecting help

Today it was pretty cold out, I have noticed that my metal detecting is way quieter when it is cold out. Probably battery related.

how do you like the F44? the ground just froze here in MN where I am. I'll be looking at pea gravel and mulch tot lots myself until spring.

Finally got out with the F44 today. Only had an hour out there but loved it. Lol dug a few coins but dug them out of solid ice! My digging tool couldn't penetrate ground. Could only get to shallow stuff. It was 20F at most and I had no problems and detector worked great. Really wish I could have had a better place to detect than the frozen tundra. Lol. I could have gotten much more but ground was just impenetrable.

Lots of heat packs! Lol I have a Leshe piranha shovel for hard ground or a pick. I use the "Hermit" pick from Bunks prospecting. I start my serious metal detecting in January after deer season so do the cold weather stuff myself. One thing is to keep your knees dry when dropping down and digging. I bought a good comfortable pair of knee pads that tile layers use and it keeps my pants from getting soaked.
Good luck PeeBoo. You will get hooked. Lots of great hunters on here. I always learn from them!
Happy Hunting!

Good point. I can get a better tool for conditions. Great idea about the knee pads. Hubby is military so in sure we have some here somewhere. Thanks for the ideas! Hopefully get out in the daylight tomorrow.

There's a "Metal detecting in Alaska" channel on YouTube by kiethie6. He deals with the cold weather and snow in his videos. Watch his videos and the cold won't feel so bad, or at least you'll know you're not alone. Also the SilverSlingers dig through the Winter in New England.

Lol I've watched all his vids. It almost makes me sad seeing all his great finds because I know, wherever there's a tot lot, Kiethie6 was there. Lol. I've tried contacting him but never heard back. Love the vids. Inspiring finds! We live in the same town lol.
