Believe it or not, this is a first for me :)

Nice one ! looks like the ringer is in it yet too

Thank you. Yes it is. Still jingles

Hard to believe that's your first one...they'll come fast and furious now!

Love finding the older bells. Any info from looking up the maker's mark? I can't quite read the letters in the pic.

Or maybe I'm seeing things... Haha not sure.

Awesome dig. I am still looking for my 1st Crotal bell.

It's says No 1. It blows my mind that this is my first one. I've found 3 conestoga bells but only this one crotal bell.

Any idea on age?

My very first one was just a piece of one and I did not even know what it was lol. I was looking at pics posted and recognized the pattern. It pays to read other people's posts. Congrats. Nice one!

That's a nice one too, good job

Congratulations, I've yet to find one. That one looks to be in great shape.

Every day I hear from others about things they've not found before, and usually its things that are relatively "easy" or "common" and crotal bells easily fit into that category

It surprises me that you haven't found one previously, I guess youre over the hump now!

Haha I feel much better now that I dug one. I couldn't wrap my mind around the fact that they eluded me for over two years. Weird, I can dig a spill of 8 reales' colonial French, colonial Dutch and state copper, but not a damn crotal bell ! Thank God I got that over with! Too funny, really.

This one was also dug in Canada RM (Ont) & it was from a typically mid 1800's trash pit. That said it could have been 50? years old when discarded. I'm also just wrapping up my second year & was lucky enough to find this one last year. Good thing. Ain't seen one since. My cat liked it too. I rushed out of the shower the next morning when I heard her playing with it. It 'was' on a table. She's too old for that!

Nice looking bell. Where did you find it ? old park, farm field ? I am also looking for my first.

Chris,

Good score on the complete crotal bell....believe that's what's called acorn crotal.

It was in a field. It was pasture...may have been plowed at one time in the late 1700's-early 1800's

Awesome bell and looks like an older one too.

I always wanted to find one, and then it happened... but the property owner REALLY liked it too... so I gave it to them. Still hunting for that second one and hopefully it still jingles whenever it is that it surfaces.
