Beginnings of a five gallon bucket winter garden

That soil looks beautiful!! I’m just thinking out loud as I’m not sure how it would go with peppers, but id it possible to separate the seedlings when ready as opposed to thinning? Thanks for posting and I am enjoying this as well chilli! 👍
Hi. An update. My Urbana tomato is kicking right in with the Coco Pro soil.
This is 2 weeks in the pot. Im very happy with it. Its quadrupled in size. I have had to move it under the carport which has some clear perspex sheeting allowing some light in. It was struggling in the sun and even the 50/50 sun where it was. Its now 100% under the carport.

Here are the hot cayeene chilli's. They are just starting to get a grip. Unlike the tomato which was transplanted with roots undisturbed, these had to be seperated which really disturbed the roots and thinned the roots out. But they are now taking ok. One is showing signs of weakness so ill just cut it out tomorrow without disturbing the others roots.

Last the Broome chilli in a bag. Mongrel harlequin bugs got to it and attacked the top shoots. It struggled a bit but has kicked back in, in the last week.

Im germinating some rare white fatalli chilli seeds at the moment and should have something up and running in 2 weeks with those. They are super hot but have a beautiful citrus flavour.
Cheers 👍

I have grown tomatoes, bell, banana, hot peppers, Okra, Onions, and bitter melons in 4 and 5 gallon buckets. Grew upside down tomatoes in 5 gal buckets cutting small hole in bottom so plant hung from the bottom.

You guys are motivating me. I have a complete indoor garden setup, including raised trays, lights, fans and all the trimmings. Grew my own weed for many years, but have been taking a break from growing and just buying from the retail outlets.

I love radishes, and have seeds for several varieties. All I really need to get is some soil. Winter's up here are cold, wet and nasty, and this will give me something to do besides sitting on my arse.

Hi. That's interesting growing the tomatoes that way hanging down! 👍

That will be good to see. Indoor lights sure have come a long way from the old metal halides and Hps now with the new gen Leds.

Best part iscno staking or cages required. Just be sure to hang them high enough so the full grown plant isn't laying on the ground.

Beautiful plant! 👍 Just out of curiosity are you germinating the seeds outdoors or indoors?

I tell ya for some reason here radish and turnips come up like wildfire. Last weekend I hand tilled this little bed. Mostly clay soil and I added some compost. I did a few cabbage transplants and just threw turnip seed and already popping. I’ve done it with radish also. Good luck👍!

Hi. Indoors using the wet paper towel method. One on the bottom, wet it, seeds spread out, another piece on top wetted. Put on a sandwich plate inside a sealed plastic bag. Second day now and they are fattening up nicely when I checked this morning. Gone from a flat white to a lively yellowish colour. Ill put them when they have sprouts in some fine seed raising mix then when they have a couple of sets of leaves, hopefully, plant them.

I had a terrible germination rate direct sowing them in the past. The chilli seed place I them from recommends the wet paper towels on a plate in the plastic bag method.

Hi. I looked that up and what an amazing way to grow them. Im gonna have to try this down the not so much sun and wind side of the house hanging from a tree. That's unreal. I found a few pictures, this was one. I just learnt something new 👍👍
