I got my first permission to hunt a stunning 1822 farm house's yard today. I have admired this home for 12 years as I drove by it on my way to work. The owner turned out to be an incredibly nice man that was, as luck had it, a retired history teacher. He told me the house's age and that the little house next to it was actually older. It was built in 1805 and was a toll collector's house. Apparently the road that I travel was a toll road in the early 1800's. I found the mother load of zinc canning lids, lol, 2 modern keys, some rusty old iron and this beautiful little key at 8 inches deep out near the edge of the lawn as it stands today, just above what appears to have been the garden lot. The key is metallic, but does not stick to a magnet. maybe brass? It had the most beautiful green patina I have ever seen on anything in my life as it came from the dark loam of the lawn. It had traveled down to just above where the tan clay under the rich soil starts. I hope someone can tell me it is as old as I hope and maybe even tell me perhaps what it may have been used to lock or unlock.

I found a key like that as well - how old were these does anyone know?

Last night I was looking at the key on another thread I think as well and the picture of the house wouldn't load. Not only is that house fantastic I'm loving the statue of the American Indian.

That's definitely a key. Let's just think of it as the key that unlocked the gate that allowed access to that toll road circa 1800.....:laughing7: Nice find!

Sweet relics there , I would get out there again to see what else the ground holds!
