Beautiful hunt ruined

Go back out there and fill in the holes and pick up the trash that the kids left. After you've gotten it looking great again then go knock on the door and ask the guy if he'll come with you and look at the place. Show him all the work you did to fix the mess and then tell him, "if you let me detect the spot I want to this is how it'll look when I'm done." I'll bet he'll let you get on it after that.

Well its along the same idea I had but I like masons better, my last name is mason so I know you have to have brains and think like me, lol. If you show some initiative that guy will know you are a stand up guy with good morals and may be inclined to let you have at the area.

:BangHead: So I live in south central Pennsylvania which is rich in history. I was able to find a site of an old Fort that Indians attacked and killed settlers and took hostages. I had to do some research to find out where this fort stood. There is a marker there that tells you where it stood but in an old measurement called Rods. I get there, eye up the ,land and know exactly where it was. So on to ask permission. The home owner was very nice however.....When I told him what I was there for and what I do he told me that it was funny I asked him. One week ago 4 high school students with shiny new detectors tore up the spot all around the monument and found nothing. He respectfully told me no they were already there found nothing and left a mess ( no wonder they found nothing, if you cant read a sign that says that it isn't at the monument). As much as I know there is something, it is his land and I understand his frustration because its a beautiful location. I used to like watching some of the digging shows but now that I lost a weeks worth of planning to newbies with no respect....I am pissed and knowing that there is some goodies out there and I can't dig them drives me so insane I want to put on a straight jacket!!! I can't wait until these shows die down and people lose interest before all of our sites are ruined by nector screamin roundness screamin civ screamin yahoos :skullflag: Sorry guys, I had to vent to people who would understand. Everyone else would be like so what.

Really? You blame tv shows. Like this hasn't happened since metal detecting started. Every hobby has bad apples and picking a tv show as a scapegoat is a cop-out. Instead of *****in find the kids and educate them. Or accept that there are stupid people out there, but don't blame it on the tv. Love how everyone wants to blame things on anything but the person that did the stupid act.

These shows r puttin ideas in peoples heads they can get rich. You wouldn't believe how many guys ib my area I see went and bought a cheap bounty hunter from wal mart. I asked them and they said well we saw them in tv making money. I flipped on the one guy for his holes. I told him if he doesn't clean them up better and do a better job I would snap that 80 dallor detector in half.

The guys that came to that site live just a few minutes up the road from that property. And just now showed up. Suspicious to me that only now when these shows are all over that they decided to finally dig there. If I had lived there and knew that the place had history I would have been there immediately. Keep in mind these were high school kids. Or maybe it wasn't the shows. Just seems kind of odd living so close that they just now go to the place. Guess I will never know but I am not giving up yet.

How about we say there is a strong possibility that recent shows may have had something to do with them making their decision. Considering most teens are either texting, on YouTube or playing video games we may have a few kids here who watched TV, a shocker there, decided to go out and try their hand at it and did as any young noob would do and screw it up. No sense in going off on the OP and bashing him for his opinion on something when he may be completely right.

Its like going to your favorite fishing spot and seeing trash on the ground and saying"That dang Bill Dance fishing show is ruining my hobby"....you guys kill me.

I've been a bird and game hunter for the past 50 plus years and this problem has always existed, especially in SE Pennsylvania. I lived up there when Montgomery, Bucks and Berks counties were all mostly farm land and idiots were always out there, but they seem to have multiplied greatly in the last several years or so. When I ran into a land owner that had had previous problems with trash, etc., I would talk to them and tell them that I believed in treating their land better than my own because I was a guest. and then offer to clean up the mess left by others before me if I could hunt. After I showed them I was serious, I always got told, "come back anytime you'd like to". I REALLY like the idea of going back with grass seed and filling in and replanting the area the kids messed up. As a land owner now myself, I can assure you that it would work with me here in Texas.
