I had a great day yesterday & saved an amazing piece of history! There was a story that Civil War soldiers stopped by the homesite I was at to use the well. Well, I think I proved that they were there! There was a camp less than a mile from this place. This is a model 1851 Civil War union sword belt plate! This would’ve been used by officers or cavalry. It was definitely a thrill seeing that pop out! I also found a cool 1940s toy fire truck & an unknown item (maybe piece of a sword scabbard). We drove 3 hours & were only able to hunt 2 because of the rain but boy was it worth it! A real beautiful plate. They don't come around often which make them special. A big congrats on a super find.

Congrats to you Josh. It’s nice to see that the relic found someone to appreciate it.

How did soldiers just lose those plates? They had to be pretty sturdy, I presume. Are most that are found from fallen soldiers I wonder?

No battle here so really no clue. It does make you wonder

Very awesome. Congrats :icon_thumright:

Fantastic! Glad you brought it back to life!

Awesome find! Here are some pics of an undug example from a museum in Deadwood, SD.image.pngimage.png

Great condition on that plate; almost too good. If that had been in the ground here in Connecticut, it’d be toast for sure.

That is a beautiful plate! Nice save and Congrats! A sword plate is high on my list of to find.

Congrats on a fine Civil War relic! That will look great in the display case.

Congrats on the awesome scores magnum. That belt plate is out of this world ad the old toy fire engine ain't bad either.
