Bear's curiosity shifts into joyride - headline you don't see everyday

DENVER - A bear climbed into an empty car, honked the horn and sent the car rolling 125 feet into a thicket, with the bear still inside, a Colorado family said.

Seventeen-year-old Ben Story said he and his family were asleep in their Larkspur home, 30 miles south of Denver, when the bear managed to open the unlocked door of his 2008 Toyota Corolla early yesterday and climbed inside.

A peanut-butter sandwich left on the back seat is probably what attracted the bear, Story said.

I watched a special once that had to do with Yellow Stone Park and they showed a Griz in a parking lot cruising for food. Soon it came up on a mini van that was completely locked up with all the doors and windows closed tight, yet it could still smell the cooler of food inside. The next thing you see is the bear ripping the rear hatch door completely off the van. I was like, "Now that's one strong hungry bear." The bear ended up earning a rubber bullet in the rump from the park rangers, but even then it just sort of shook it off and wondered slowly away. It was Amazing!

When you think about it, most animals have a heightened sense of smell. I know many a camper that learned the hard way not to stuff goodies into your backpack, or duffel bag, raccoons and other small creatures will eat, or claw their through in no time.

I was at the Bronx Zoo a few years back when a Grizzly Bear actually escaped, when they found it in the parking lot it was in a BMW that it had used a slim Jim to jimmy the lock and it was in the process of hot wiring it.

It was amazing, I'm sure Spartacus has heard about the incident.

Never heard about this, but what surprises me most about that story is they found the bear trying to hot wire a BMW. In that neighborhood of The Bronx, anyone that can walk can hot wire a car in under a minute, including animals. I am surprised that he was caught in the act and not during a pursuit
