Beach Nourishment

Hi y’all.
This is not exactly related to gold mining. However, I could not find a better place to ask these questions. Your advice is appreciated.

I recently rebuilt three jetties on my beach to hold sand in.
However, it is taking a long time for them to fill up.
Some of my neighbors have paid to have sand dredged from offshore. However, I think I can do it myself.

I am trying to move sand 20ish feet from offshore to nourish my beach.
The water is 1-2ft deep.
I have a 158gpm 2 in trash pump I use for jetting pilings down.
Would y’all recommend getting a powerjet or suction nozzle?
I wouldn’t expect I would have to lift the intake out of the water. Air burps wouldn’t be a problem either. How hard is it to reprime a powerjet hose if I accidentally lift it out of the water.
So far the only thing going for using suction nozzle is that it would not have to be primed.

Also, what size nozzle and hose would you reccomend with the 2in pump. The sand is very fine with no pebbles.

Appologies for formatting. Written on mobile.

Thanks again.

I'd use a 4 or a 5 inch suction nozzle because of the cost (unless you build one yourself) and for the ease of use (just keep it under the water ) Using a jet is extra cost to you and the jet needs to be CONSTANTLY under water or it WILL LOSE PRIME ! I've use both and each has good / bad considerations ! With using this type of device in somewhat shallow water like you described , It don't take much umph to suck up sand to and move it at the depth like you want to do . You'll need to make some sort of containment barrier at the water line to filter out the sand from the escaping water to keep the sand where you want it to stay ! Hope this will help you ! And WELCOME to T- NET for your first post !

conger, if you list where you are at, maybe someone close can help you

i was talking state, not a specific location, kinda like you have st louis missouri on your member tab and me Eastern PA

How high up are you trying to pump the sand? Keene used to sell 4” plus size suction nozzles for use on their subsurface tubes but they no longer sell them so I don’t know if they still sell the large suction nozzles. I tried buying a 6” subsurface tube from Keene a few years ago talked to Pat on the phone they had apparently recently changed contractors for their marlex parts and lost the molds for the subsurface tubes and since they were a very low demand item they didn’t persue redeveloping it. You can run a suction nozzle and a power jet inline together if you have the pump power.
