Yesterday was my first time out with mine on the local park beach (sand). Freshwater. I had it on all metal, preset ground balance, low sensitive. It did very well, only beeped when something was there. Found a cheapo cast ring, 4" lure, hook, and some clad coins. I am not so sure how it will do with saltwater. Sherpa t has one and does the beach thing. Ask him, he is a good teacher with good advice! Good luck! ;D

Brent, where will you be at? Wife & I stayed in Destin a couple of days last year. Will try to get back again, after visiting kids in AL. Didn't have my 3000xd (or any other MD) then so please let us know how it works out. Have a great trip, ENJOY. HH

We'll be camping at the Fort Desoto park in Pinellas County.

Wow, just looked that up on the map. Don't think it would be possible to run out of beach to MD there. Have you got a scoop type strainer yet? I don't think a pin pointer other than what's built into your 3000xd would be required on the beach.
We'll be waiting to hear of your adventures. Good luck, ENJOY. HH

I have not been on the gulf side yet with the Titan, but have hit Myrtle beach and the Daytona area beaches with it. I know with my Tesoro around cedar key the water was more brack-ish than full on salt water of the east coast.
Dry sand ( the chair line they say )
Head phones and a sand scoop is all you will need. All Metal with out headphones will eat your batteries FAST !!
I have the best luck at dawn before everyone walks on the sand and ruffs it up.
Early Am low tide is preferred.

I have been able to use the preset GB, all metal mode, and full sensitivity. ( dry white sand beaches )
In Myrtle the beach was very wide, low and flat , It was raining alot and the sand didn't get a good chance to dry out, would want to back off a bit. also the tides never got up to where the people would sit so they didn't re - mix the area. ( just missed the storm and they said the hunting was AW-SOME after it ) because it was 'nt changing I ran the Tesoro after the Titan to see what I missed and only turned a couple Nickels.

Start at the dune , the all metal will grunt when you get to near the water table line. ( It's a vlf and they don't like salt water )
Then I zig zag up and down till I find my line, there will be a few feet difference between the lighter dimes and penny's VS. the quarters and nickels. I'm over six feet tall so I extend the detector to the max. hold it by the elbow cup and swing ( thats why I don't like all the foot traffic mounds ) Then cover as much ground as you can.
Beach hunting can be spotty. Sand scoop and titan 8.5 coil is deadly accurate and fast.
Have fun and I hope you get a good spot to work.
PS You may want to ask if the beach in your area has been re - nourished or re shaped lately after the Storm's etc. the more natural the beach the better.

Good Advice Sherpa T. I just got back & didn't read your post until now. I had a great time even though I didn't find any rings. I found around $4.00 in quarters, dimes, & Penny's. I dug everything and learned to ignore the false signals. I also found a hotwheels car and a kids necklace charm. I don't think it's silver as it's a silver colored easter basket with colored eggs painted on it :D. I also found a 50 cal rifle shell in the picnic area before I found out that searching that area was not allowed. The maintenance people saw me searching that area the whole time, but didn't say anything to me. There was a guy that asked me if I found anything as I was leaving and asked if I had got a permit. I said I didn't know you needed a permit and he said he read it somewhere, but that he wouldn't worry about it if no one had said anything about it. I went ahead then and asked the park office about getting one and they gave me a piece of paper that I signed and explained to me that I was only allowed to hunt on just the beach.

From then on, I only hunted the beach. I think the sand there has a lot of minerals because I couldn't get the hum to go off with the nob turned all the way to the right if I was within 15 feet of the water. I still was able to find a few coins right up to the water's edge in the discrimination mode with iron notched out. It's sort of steep in most places at the water's edge, so high and low tide is doesn't make a lot of difference...not much mixing of the sand. I did see a couple of other guys metal detecting during the day. One guy had one of the very expensive metal detectors he took all the way in the water in a kind of lagoon area and he had the beach scoop that has a curved around handle; kind of looks like a big hand rail. I just used my gator trowel, which worked fine. Most of the sand was too coarse and wet to use a sieve easily.

One area I searched was out on kind of a sand bar I found a few mid 60's dimes, but a few years past 1964, the last year for silver dimes. The ocean really works on those Pennies. I found one that had barnacles all over it and I soaked it in vinegar just to find out that it was a penny. Can just barely make out the Lincoln Memorial on one side; the other side is completely gone.

All in all I had a great time, and yes, early in the morning is the best time to go. No one else on the beach at all. :)

Sounds like you had a good time and got to know the 3000xd better. Thank you for the detail when hunting, I just got my 3000xd in Feb and hope to get to the gulf coast or Md eastern shore this summer. I take it the 50 cal shell was just the empty cartridge. Hey, something neat to add to your collection, I have 22, 32 and 45 cal cartridges in the box. Not much hope of finding anything as large as a 50 cal here though. Super that you had a great time. HH

Happy to add to the forums, and yes the gun shell was empy ;D.
