This is the beach glass my wife picked up while in Nome Alaska. The town of Nome burned twice many years ago, and all the remains of the town was pushed into the bering sea. Now the it is washing back up on the beach. The glass has been rolled in the rocks ground to different shapes. They make jewelery out of it, and decorative bottles. Also we saw some made into cabinet drawer pulls. It was all very nice looking.

LUCKYSGIRL...where are you looking? try the jersey shore or anywhere on the east coast. wait for low tide and start walking the edge of the water. look for concentrations of shells, broken shells and stones. slow down and look closely, most times the sun will reflect the glass at you. check the various tide lines above the water at low tide. most times they are seperated every few feet perpendicular to the water, hunt these too. even being as hard to find as it has been i still can get around 15 commons and 1 or 2 "keepers" every time i go. good luck

Well...I live in Indiana so waterfront shores are not at my disposal!! BUT!....with the detailed advice you have just given I will make sure that in my travels to places with these options I will be ready for the hunt! Thanks!!

LUCKYSGIRL.....some people have told me that rivers and some of the large lakes with wave action do the same to glass to a lesser degree than the ocean. i know someone told me they got some in the great lakes also.

Interesting find! I use to find that when I was a little shaver, on the beach in lake Michigan. My grand kids still bring it home. Always a nice find. Like finding jewels!

I been hunting the beaches here too for a nice colorful one, so I can whip up a necklace for myself..so far, just tiny peices I have found..but man, YOUR doing great..

bootybay....i mostly find small ones too, up to the size of a quarter. but occasionally, maybe 1 or 2 a trip i'll get a larger one. this summer on vacation i walked from 58th st to 28th st looking both ways, only found a few common browns and a couple greens. showed the wife and she whips out a blob of clear glass the size of a baseball. she found it right next to where she put her chair at the water :angry9: oh well you never know.

Very nice. The pictures makes me want to run my hands through the glass

Great sea glass...my wife started collecting it two or three years ago so we have vases all over the house filled with the stuff. It does make for a very nice display. She mixes different shells and sand dollars with the colored glass.

Mistergee,
You may want to buy your niece the book Pure Sea Glass. I bought it for my wife and she loved it. It is a nice coffee table book that can be left out by her collection.

I aways find beach glass here in RI. We have some great beaches for that an usually some really cool colors.

It just old junk glass.......but it sure is eye catching and collectable. I always keep my eye out for it too on my rare trips to the coast.

That display in the jar looks almost like candy! Great looking stuff.

pretty cool
one of those looks like my kidney stone/s from a few years back *ouch* :-X

Don't let my wife know, she's a jewelry maker, she would want to go.

Hey honey guess what.........

You have some really beautiful pieces there!

Is it at Nome where people dredge the beach sand for gold as well?

Yes they dredge the beach sand. There's beach boxes all along the beach. We rode for 12 miles down the beach N/W of Nome the camp at cripple river. Folk have claims all along beach. They are running floating dredges off shore a couple of hundred yards out. They told us that they were getting 27 to 30 ounces of gold every two days. Its a very interesting place. Ride along the beach, and you will see grisley bear tracks all along the beah where the miners are camping. I didn't relize the beach glass to popular. Its my pleasure to share it with everyone.
