Marcus Antonius Gordianus Pius (January 20, 225 – February 11, 244), known in English as Gordian III, was Roman Emperor from 238 to 244. Gordian was the son of Antonia Gordiana and his father was an unnamed Roman Senator who died before 238. Antonia Gordiana was the daughter of Emperor Gordian I and younger sister of Emperor Gordian II. Very little is known on his early life before becoming Roman Emperor. Gordian had assumed the name of his maternal grandfather in 238.

thats what the inscription says. All I know its strange since this looks like gold. Nice and shinny though no idea how long it was in the water.

thats a cut and paste from the wikipedia

"Marcus Antonius Gordianus Pius (January 20, 225 – February 11, 244), known in English as Gordian III, was Roman Emperor from 238 to 244"

. point here is the inscription on this has the name and date which agrees with what I came up with on google.

Yes I understand. Its odd that it has the dates. I seriously doubt that its old but my guess is its either a fake/look-a-like/knock-off Giordano watch/jewelry ring or a bezel of some type for a coin or token pendant perhaps.

Does it feel heavy? Gold is heavy. It may be a good idea to take it to a pawn shop to see have it tested for free. Tell them you are thinking of selling it. Hope its gold.

Can we see a pic of the back and something for size? Also a side view may help. Is it very thin?

If you have a macro lens setting (flower icon) take a close up pic of the markings.

The back is just plain. When I first saw it I thought it was a bezzel or something similar that came from a watch. Its thin and I kinda think its maybe gold. I find things fairly often and unless someone just lost it there would be a tarnish from time in salt water. I doubt if a close up would help. The two small marks on the bottom I can hardly make out with a loop. The one on the right has this Star (marking like *) 1002 Al. The other mark I can not make out with a loop. I am kinda thinking it may have been a loop around a coin from that time. A watch part was my first thought but the marking just does not lend itself to that.

You would be surprised what we can tell from another picture. But it has to be in focus. Maybe you are implying that your camera is bad or your phgotography skills are poor. :dontknow:

I was thinking very recently lost but the pic is not in the best of focus.

ok as requested two new views. back side with scale in cm. Close up of marks on bottom. Really hard to make out anything even if I have it in hand with a loop. I have to assume the symbol on the left is a makers mark. The right is * 1002 AL Its not old but I kinda think it came of a coin or something similar. Just really odd.

just got some new information. my local jewler said the small mark on the right is an italian stamp meaning 18K. The other is a makers stamp. He thinks this was a band mounted around the coin and obviously it did not stay attached. Too bad did not find the coin but its 18 K which is nice for scrap.
