I don't own a Bazooka at the moment but soon to purchase or maybe build my own. I really really love the design of this gold grabbing sluice!!!

Although, I hear that many people have a few issues with tailings building up...Has anyone though to add about an 8" flat Stainless lip or whatever slick material at the end the Bazooka and run "dual exhaust" in other words, starting with a 3"x2" PVC reducer with two inch tubing mounted down both sides with 45 degree fittings wrapping around the end. This would help blow the tailing into moving waters further past the dead zone at the end of the Bazooka?

Just a thought....It might work!!! IDK???

Oh and one more thing.....Maybe adding a compartment in the front or rear inner lower corner of the trap that you can add a sliding magnet bar the width of the Bazooka. So, when doing clean out you can have two containers. One for the main and the other for the black sand and possibly attached flour gold that gets trapped between the magnet surface and the black sand...just a thought...Maybe I'm over my head???

I own a Keene and loose allot. So been wrapping my mind around this gold trap fluid motion thing!!!

Nate, I like how you think on the tailings removal, but really its not that bad unless you are in a very small creek. Usually when I am on the wider creeks, just a couple shovel fulls to knock tailings back and I am good to go again. Its just because the Bazooka processes so much material its like running a dredge instead of a sluice. The only limit is how much can you shovel. You should try the idea with the pvc though and let us know how it works, might be onto something there.

Might work. When I am in a creek with enough flow, I set up rocks to create a forceful flow that blasts away most of my tailings.

It is like running a small dredge in this sense I suppose especially when on a smaller creek. The tails are quick and easy to move out of the way since they are loose material. Really no big deal - esp compared to classifying - I sure don't miss the classifying!!

Mine it and recycle it!

Hey Kevin,

I was curious?? Have you used the Bazooka in Colorado streams/rivers? I heard that the gold there has a tendency to be flaked and flour and attached to other material... That's why I thought the gold trap would be more effective. My younger Brother lives in Thorton CO. I'm planning on visiting soon and want to be prepared with the right equipment for the quickest and most effective recovery!!! Whats your thoughts???

The vast majority is fine gold, some flakes and occasional course gold depending where you are. The Bazooka Gold Trap works great here and allows you to process a lot more material than you could ever hope in a keene in the same amount of time.

Thank you for the info!!!!

Looks like I'll be making the transition from a riffle sluice to a FB sluice!!!

Hey NatureNate, yup, I've used it on clear creek and also South Platte river basin down in metro Denver...works great with our fine gold for sure...just shovel like a fiend :-)

Mine it and recycle it!

My results from the bazooka Goldtrap Prospector yesterday... that's a 1/10 Troy oz American Eagle for perspective. Dug on Clear Creek right here in Metro Denver. Total weight 1/10 gram - less than ideal considering the size hole, etc. Ah well, next time! At least you can see that really fine gold the bit catches - lots of -50 mesh.

Kevin: what do you use to process your cons? There is a lot of fly speck in there I toss here in cal, as it is a pain to recover

What can I say, I have good panning skills...All i use is a 50 mesh classifier and a finishing pan. I have a shake and bump technique that has the fine stuff just dancing right out of the classified cons :)

Send me you -50 cons and I'll send you a pic of the gold I pull out!!

Seriously if you want to learn the technique go looking around in YouTube for diff panning videos for fine gold recovery. You can easily get to be faster than any gold wheel!

Ps: here the -50 is often 1/2 of your total gold by weight so I sure don't want to toss it :)

Thanks again for sharing!!!
