I thought I'd tell you about the bit of excitement I had when I got permission to search fields around the site of the battle of sherifmuir which took place in 1715 between scotland and england.I took my mate who had never detected before with me and lent him my spare detector he was having a great time digging up musket balls and the like,I wandered of to another field and after I while got a nice signal and started digging, after going down over a foot in depth I saw what I thought was a cannonball and called my mate over to show him what I had found,Ian my mate said i didn't know cannonballs had fins, I said they did'nt I had just dug up a ww2 bomb.

Don't play with the bomb. These things can still go off.

Nothing like live ammo find to liven things up! I hope you left it lie and called the authorities.

I took a couple of photographs then called the bomb squad who detonated it,I'll post photos as soon as I find them.

You English blokes get plumb serious in your digs dont you? A little bit of any thing in your soil!!! :tongue3:
