Base Ball Buckle

Found this buckle today. Cleaned it when I got home. Realized it was a buckle when I found it but couldn't tell much more. I was hopeful it was some kind of military buckle but it's clear it is not! Of course, I can tell you what it is but what I can't tell you is any history of the buckle because I can't find anything on the web. Can someone out there give me a hand? Thanks.

the words Base Ball were still being used as late as 1911

CW, thank you for the information. The manufacturing date is 1874 based on the info provided.

Correct regarding the wording "Base Ball". Did a lot of reading before I really cleaned that lite spot on the buckle. Learned a few things about the origins. Got to love this hobby. Research is the best.

Hey that's a nice one!

I have an extensive Victorian buckle collection (all dug) and many with sporting themes but I only have one base ball buckle.



I've been researching these type of buckles for years and rarely see anything related to baseball. WTG!

I like your buckle as well. Interesting to note the relative scarcity of these types of buckles. I am hoping I get to sit with the experts from the Hall of Fame to discuss what they may have in their collection. Would be nice to think this buckle could fill a gap they may have rather than add to some they already do have. And displaying it is the chief hope. We shall see!
