Hello,
Only had an hour to kill so I knocked on a couple doors in the old part of town. First one: nobody home. Second one: a nice older lady gave me the go ahead. The house had a tiny front yard about 50X20 with some walkways and flower beds. I figured I could cover the front lawn in an hour with time to spare. I turned my machine to +1 gain and started swinging. The first signal was saying a solid 85VDI at 3 inches. Figured it was a deep jar lid or something. Dug a plug and saw silver in the plug. It was my best silver ring yet. I'm hoping the stone is real. They put real diamonds in silver settings way back int the old days didn't they? Anyway kept going and found a bunch of good stuff. The quarter rang up as a penny at 4". My machine seems to underestimate the depth of the larger coins (nickel and up) because the quarter was actually about 6-8 inches down. I dinged it with the trowel but lucky it's not a key date or I'd really feel bad. Penny dates: '03, '13d, '18s, '29s, '42s. '43p nickel. '52d roosie (or is it rosie?). Chicago Lock Co. key. Blank watch fob. W.R.A. Co. 40-60 W.C.F. shell casing. Old hair beret.
I included a pic of the junk (and 4 memorial cents) just to show the ratio of junk to keepers in this yard. 27 targets dug, 13 decent finds. Hunts like this keep me going. I only hunted for 1 hr 15 min and had to go. Showed the nice lady my finds & she said "come back anytime". I only cherry picked the good signals and didn't even cover the whole yard so I'll have to go back and take my time.
Anyway, thanks for looking. Happy Hunting
