Jonzer - Had to come back and look again. just the broke end you found 8 years ago is a great find all by itself. Really an amazing find. You asked about getting it 'fixed'. I think it's a great, great find the way it is, I think it takes something away from it having it 'repaired'.
I agree with the others. Just use some Elmers glue and stick it back together. It's a much better story that way. In fact dad and I found an axe in 3 pieces 6 years apart and more people ask about that than any other relic we have. We never did glue it back together because it's a fun story.
I voted banner as well. That's as rare as they get especially made of hardstone. I have only known two other people who personally found them. The other hardstone one is probably the best one ever found in Illinois.
I dont remember if the material is Gneiss or diorite. It looks like diorite from the picture, but I'm not sure.
