I live in Franklin TN and found this odd item in my backyard. It was buried about 18 inches down. It has sort of a bone or plastic-y feel to it. I don't think its stone but not sure. I texted it to a bunch of friends but they are clueless. I'm not sure if its old or some kids toy. Here's a few pics of both sides and a measurement photo. Anyone have a clue? Thanks!

The item is a little more then an 8th of an inch thick....

I don't think it's bone of any kind because there are no pores on the broken edge. Still think resin. Try the hot pin trick.

Concluding what the material is will go along way on getting help to identify this item. If it is clay, shale,or maybe soapstone it could be an artifact used by Native Americans to maybe mark time. Either days, moons,or seasons. It could also be some sort of tally sheet. Just a wild guess! Keep me in the loop when you find what its made of. It is a very interesting piece and it could be very important. Great find ! Good Luck ! :thumbsup:The KID

Wait you say it was buried 18 inches down. Why would you have been digging that deep? Were you detecting and there was metal near it or what? Just curious

we may never know...op either lacks a needle or flame or the will to rule out resin

How it was found: I have two large Tamaskan dogs that dug a deep hole in my backyard. I was about to refill the hole and saw this sticking out of dirt about 18 inches down-in the wall of the hole. I'm gonna head to the kitchen now and do the hot needle test. Will get back to you....

So I heated up a needle and put it on the edge. The needle slid along the side and easily removed the material. It clearly had an odor when burning. So it is made of a soft material. I have no idea what resin smells like . Here's a pic......

you can probably mend the wing back together with a little heat and patience.
