I live in Franklin TN and found this odd item in my backyard. It was buried about 18 inches down. It has sort of a bone or plastic-y feel to it. I don't think its stone but not sure. I texted it to a bunch of friends but they are clueless. I'm not sure if its old or some kids toy. Here's a few pics of both sides and a measurement photo. Anyone have a clue? Thanks!

The item is a little more then an 8th of an inch thick....

I thought of a scraper. Its such a strange pattern. Does it look Indian to you? I have searched high and low on the web but nothing comes close. This is gonna drive me nuts!

Very nice! I'm interested in this one. With it being ≈18 inches deep I'd say its likely it is old. Could it be made of shell from maybe a nearby lake/river?

That is from an area with heavy Civil War activity . Looks like a soldier made a " guitar pick ," except that is is too long.

Resin butterfly wing or angel wing off of a garden statue?

Great comments! This area is heavy in civil war finds. Shell theory is interesting but not many lakes around here. The resin garden statue comment seems the most logical to me but I have no way of finding out if that's it. My first thought when I picked it up was that it was Indian. Guess I'll never know.

Could it be pre-clovis? Like Paleoamerican? That would be something huh? Very interesting find..

Interesting. Anyone know of a university Or expert that I can send this to for analysis. I would like to get it out of the house so I don't have to keep saying..."what the hell is that"?

I thought about a Fossil but that is clearly the shape of a finger on both sides. The resin garden item is still at the top of my list. I don't think it's at all a real old item. But what do I know...nothing.

It looks like a ceramic fish fin.Although I also can see butterfly or fairy wing.

stick a hot needle in it and see if it smells like plastic/resin

A product of a fairly artistic, but bored out of the gourd, kid. We use to do the same sort of thing with slate.

I am going to guess that it could be some old school art class clay project that was so hideous that even the kids own mother decided to bury it. Joking. I wish I had something more helpful to add. Good luck. Someone will probably know here.
