Hey all and Happy New year.
Well it's been a little while now, but just after X-mas I did a run up past the Bridge to Nowhere up on the EFSGR.
I was able to get my eldest Son out there as well as a friend of mine who wanted to join us.
Being that I had some tenderfoots with me, I carried all the gear (my BGT Sniper, my GoldBug pro, pans, shovel, digging gear etc.)
so I had about 40lbs while the others just had there lunch and water.
No big deal.
Hiking by 7:30am and it took us just over 3.5 hours to get up to the bridge.
By the time we got there, my partners were whooped.
But I needed them to continue a little further to get out of the Private property.
Found a nice spot just up a little further and setup camp.
Got the Sluice setup and it was about 12 noon already. We had a set time of 3:00pm to pack up and head out so time was short.
My son had no interest in Detecting or digging. So he scouted around and cooked up some hot chocolate with my pack stove.
As long as he had fun.
I picked a few areas close that I would dig from and seeing as we had only three hours, I set my buddy up with the Gold Bug Pro.
He set out and found some trash and OLD nuts and bolts....no Au.
I dug from the areas I picked out.
Here's one of em.
I brought Canvas buckets that hold 2gal each. I really like these as they're light and easy to stow but also easier to carry when full.
Dug a while from the spots. took a break with some Hot coca and a PBnJ sandwich.
My buddy came to help me out with some digging and feeding the sluice.
3:00pm and throw the Cons into a ziplock bag. Check it at home. Pack it all up and hit the trail out.
Good thing we all had head lamps, because we didn't get back to the truck until 6:45 and it was nice and dark.
Everyone was pooped but happy. Got the heater cranked in the truck for the wet feet.
In and Out Burger was the icing on the cake.
Bottom line: we were not skunked, but only about 10 pieces of color.
I really want to detect this area.
My goal was to make it to the intersections of Iron Fork and the Narrows.
Next time I will go solo and just bring the detector.
That 40lbs of gear was pretty heavy after 12+ miles and lots of digging.
My compadres had fun and so did I.
And that is the REAL bottom line.
Cheers to all and Gold in every ones pan in 2016!!
