Detector(s) used
Minelab Explorer SE/Garrett GTI 2500/ Ace 250
went out both yesterday and this morning to the place where i found the SLQ, the 1916 MERC, and those two large cents last time. yesterday morning i got skunked pretty much. only came away with some clad. this morning however, i got this 1914D BARBER QUARTER and a LARGE CENT that i cant get a date off of. the large cent is in the typical crappy condition that old copper usually comes out of the ground like around here. :'( oh well..I'm still happy to find it. this place is a weird place to hunt. all of the old finds have been within a 100 foot area. i would love to know what drew people to only such a small spot on what is otherwise a huge piece of property. there are some overhead power lines that really make detecting tough. i used the GTI 2500 today and it seemed to fare a little better than the SE did yesterday morning. it still was chattering like crazy though. i can only guess what might be buried directly under those lines but it is just about impossible to detect under them. i tried the sniper coil for the Garrett and it helped, but right under those lines is terrible no matter what coil, machine or sensitivity setting i use. i guess i will have to settle for what i can find away from the lines a bit. there are still a ton of low tones to dig up there because i have only been cherry picking the high tones so far. i would imagine there must be a nickle or two out there somewhere.anyway, I'm pretty happy with this mornings results! ;D a barber quarter was on my list of things to find! thanks for looking.

Excellent coins Hollow. Regarding powerlines, I guess it would really have to be worth it and it may sound crazy, but building a small frame to accomodate some wire fencing to shield you and the detector would work.......it would have to be something like those little canopy things people use at picnics, a smaller version I guess. Who knows. I know it will definately affect the transmission of radio signals.

VERY NICE COINS!!!

good god! i look nerdy enough as it is now without an electric umbrella!!! ;D :D ill bet it would work though. I'm gonna try hitting as close to the wires as i can with the small sniper coil. it was doing OK with the interference. I'm just not convinced that it has the depth to get to where these old coins are.

thanks for the comments everyone. I'm going to try to make it back this coming weekend and start digging out some of those low tones and iffy signals. hopefully there is some Buffalo's and "V" nickles and maybe and Indian or two still lurking!

go there at night and hold a florescent tube above your head under the lines it will light up ;D
not bad
i told you a while back water is the key to old stuff sometimes ;)

:D Great job, what, with the power lines and all. Great lookng coins coming out of the Spot! HH and keep it going.

I've heard two things...........1) From a loss prevention individual....people who lift from stores walk in with pre-built thick aluminum foil "Bags". They hide their goodies in there so that the alarm signals do not reach the tags and 2) From a police officer in another country, they once hijacked/kidnapped someone with a hired security service. They found the car wrapped in a couple of layers of fencing to prevent authorities from locating it incase the vehicle had a transponder or similar radio device to locate it. "Electric Umbrella", ha,ha! Didn't even think of that one hollow :) Best of luck in that place bro.

Nice finds! BTW - you might try to boil that copper in peroxide - it was a suggestion from others on this site and works wonders for me.
