I got back to the scout camp the other day and had a decent day. $10.98 in clad and the usual assortment of goodies. A Wright Brothers squashed penny, a Boy Scout neckerchief slide and a group of fishing sinkers. The scouts love to fish.

I always find a pile of tent stakes and this day was good. The total for 4 hours was 85 including what I call a Big Bertha. They are 14 inches long and an inch in diameter. The equivalent of about 5 regular pegs.

I have only found about a dozen of them in the now 7800 pegs recovered at this camp. The Big Berthas have a registration or manufactures number stamped into them. I have cleaned up a few of them out of curiosity and they all have 81 in the number. The Camp opened in 1980 so they were probably specially made the next year.

I brought this one home to clean it up and check the number. The rest of them I left at camp as usual for the staff. They will not have to buy any new tent pegs again this year.

Thanks for looking and may your coil pass over only good things.

Scout camps are great to hit. I have been in one for the last 6 weeks cleaning up. Getting around all the trees is worth it.

Great hunt my friend. I have 6 neckerchiefs myself. I don’t have one with the fleur-de-lis and you’d think I would’ve found one living in Louisiana. I’ll keep looking.
