Congrats. Pretty place.

Lots of rubbish is a good sign of better to come.

Its a preference thing; but I had one of those digging tools & I found it slowed my recovery time & increased the chances of hitting a find (also I broke a few). Try a light full sized spade (heavier but then I just drag it on the ground behind me). You can tell me to p*ss off & I'll understand ;)

You are lucky to have a ploughed field even if it is a bit storky.

Happy hunting

haha was thinking of geting a bigger spade any way pal any idea on why that coin would have a hole through it

Well not really as its the wrong place for a necklace. For a Geo coin its come out in very nice condition which is another good sign of not too much chemicals & good soil.

Sometimes we are not meant to know, adds to the mystery.

[size=12[b][Hi Ukeden,
Cool coin!
Back before the time when we got use to using green backs everyone made all their transactions with coins. Because the gold and silver coins of the period were quite small many people punched a hole in the smallest and hardest to handle then strung them together and carried them around usually in a small coin purse, lest they get lost.
I hope that answered your question.

Nice coin! Wow, with all that land to hunt, there's got to be some Celtic or Roman coins there! I had to google Cumbria to find out where it was and I also read that it resisted repeated Scottish invasions. Have you ever found any early weapons or relics of a military nature?

Also I was already thinking Viking finds from across the Irish sea or from Yorkshire. You have already proved a modern link with Dublin (Viking port)!!!!
