Back to "Penny" Elementary School!

Hello Tnet Friends :hello:

Decided to hunt my daughters elementary school (built in 1924) this afternoon and got in a 3 hour hunt. I've hunted the side/back yard of this school at least 6 times this year and have had some interesting finds! I just know there's a silver coin or a ring or something special here, but all I seem to find in large quantities are pennies! :laughing7: Hey, the way I figure it, if pl8man (Glen) can find 103 rings this year hunting elementary school's, then I should at least be able to find one! :laughing7:

Not a great variety of finds, but some interesting stuff! ;D

Thanks for looking and happy hunting everyone!
Dave

I've no idea what the history of the badge/pin is you're referring to . . . it looks to be some kind of a school fraternity pin to me. :icon_scratch: Thanks for the advice Hispan regarding field hunts! The town I live in wasn't established until about 1840, but I tend to research and hunt the older sites. I live in the City of Oshawa, Ontario.

"Historians believe that the area that would become Oshawa began as a transfer point for the fur trade. Beaver and other animal pelts were trapped by local natives and traded with the Coureurs des bois (voyagers). Furs were loaded onto canoes by the Mississauga Indians at the Oshawa harbour and transported to the trading posts located to the west at the mouth of the Credit River. Around 1760, the French constructed a trading post near the harbour location; this was abandoned after a few years, but its ruins provided shelter for the first residents of what later became Oshawa."

I've often thought about hunting some of the local farm fields here, I just haven't gotten around to it yet.
Maybe in the fall, I'll start asking for permission once the crops are harvested. ;D

Cheers H! :hello:

Re: Back to "Penny" Elementary School!

Yeah, that's all I ever seem to find in schoolyards too is pennies.
Go figure.

They must have had some pretty good detectors back in the 70's.

Thanks for your post CoilFisher! :icon_thumright: You know what, I never even considered the fact, that someone may have already beaten me to the silver! :-\ That would certainly explain why I have yet to make any significant finds here. :icon_scratch: I've lived 1 block from this school for 15 years now and I've never seen anybody detecting this school before. :icon_thumright:

Best of luck to you,
Dave

I think I've already pulled 3 - 1967 Commemorative Pennies from this yard!
You're right there Herbie, absolutely tons of canslaw, pulltabs & beer tops! :BangHead:
The only satisfaction I get when I dig this stuff is that it's not going to hurt some little
kid that might happen to fall on it. I had to empty my junk pouch twice yesterday with
all the cans I found! :laughing7:

Take care buddy,
Dave

That Hat Badge is pretty Sweet Dave, congrats buddy :icon_thumleft:

Re: Back to "Penny" Elementary School!

Nice assortment of Finds! I agree always lots of pennies at the schools, I think the kids throw them. My problem I find is the dirt back filling covering up all the goodies (when I find smashed aluminum cans 7"s down :-\ ) but I'll look for the erroded or untouched areas and get a good find once in awhile. Sooner or later something nice has got to pop up, hang in there and Good Luck on a great find next time :icon_thumright: .
