I got out for a couple hours this morning to a new beach. This beach is on the opposite side of the river of where I found the 5 cannonballs this past winter and spring. This beach could probably be argued to be the oldest "dump" in North America...unfortunately it looks like the majority of the "trash" is from the past 150 years. There was considerable military activity in this immediate area in the 1700s so there is always the chance of a great military find...but not today. Not pictured are dozen or so bottles I found, none more than 100 years old.
I think the find of the day is the cane topper. I was hoping for silver but I think it's pewter or lead...
The other interesting find is the item beside the cane topper in the first picture. It is pewter and was once very ornate. It had a screw on top but I haven't a clue what it held. The last "cool" find was the quartz crystal which harkens me back to the glass/crystal I found on the same river this spring...
