I got out for a couple hours this morning to a new beach. This beach is on the opposite side of the river of where I found the 5 cannonballs this past winter and spring. This beach could probably be argued to be the oldest "dump" in North America...unfortunately it looks like the majority of the "trash" is from the past 150 years. There was considerable military activity in this immediate area in the 1700s so there is always the chance of a great military find...but not today. Not pictured are dozen or so bottles I found, none more than 100 years old.

I think the find of the day is the cane topper. I was hoping for silver but I think it's pewter or lead...

The other interesting find is the item beside the cane topper in the first picture. It is pewter and was once very ornate. It had a screw on top but I haven't a clue what it held. The last "cool" find was the quartz crystal which harkens me back to the glass/crystal I found on the same river this spring...

Looks like a gold mine to me!

Looks like a great day to me..Thanks for sharing and I would continue to hit that site hard.

Those sure are some interesting finds! The lead piece I really believe is a Pilgrims ampule, for Holy Water and looks to be in pristine condition. I would guess it dates to the 1700s. Congrats and HH, Mike

That cane topper looks amazing i am voting banner...even if I am the only one who thinks so!!!! :icon_thumright:

Thanks dude! If it were silver as I initially thought I would think so too but not sure how rare a pewter cane top would be...but I appreciate the sentiment.

Love that cane topper ! Clean up can be tedious at first on these old junky sites but you are making some good finds already  M.R.

Awesome stuff romeo. A lot of love went into making some of those finds.

Do you reckon that crystal was part of someones collection?

Hi Gio...I doubt the crystal was part of a collection...they are not common in this area but they are found here and there. I guy I work with found 60 pounds of amythest about an hour from where I was hunting...amazing colored crystals!

Wow, that's some crystal!

I'd say it is time for you to mix some detecting with prospecting. :laughing9:

Some nice finds!
You solved a whatsit for me, I have a piece that I now know is a cane top ;D
I also have pewter cylinder like yours, and a couple perforated covers that may match.
Let me try to find them and see if they match for diameter.
Thanks for showing! Best to you

I doubt it...I wouldn't want that knobby bit sticking into the palm of my hand all day...maybe a decorative candle snuffer? Does it have any broken attachment points?
