This is the site on Mt. Sniktau where an avalanche killed 5 snowboarders last weekend. The two slide paths in the left part of the pic are more recent. Note the snowboard tracks from this week along there. The original slide came loose along that line you see below the summit of the mountain, so you can see how massive it was. If there was any way a bad thing could be worse, all 5 were very knowledgable about back country avalanche danger, were all about safety, but the slide they triggered was way more than they could handle. The whole place looked scary to me, as if it could go at any time. This area is not in a ski resort, but it's perfectly legal for anyone to ski or snowboard at their own risk.
