Automatic digger?

I am an environmental specialist....soil scientist for a living. I use the tool/tools that you are talking about every day at work...The soil auger that I use at work every day would destroy fragile objects such as buttons, scratch coins, break brass, and so on and so forth....Now the auger I use is manual....and it is VERY hard on your shoulders. To use it, you twist it in the ground and it pulls out a plug of soil a little bigger than a coke can, but the cutting teeth on it only have a gap of about 2 inches....the angle at which these teeth are on the tool would do major damage to any artifact that you would dig up...So, I guess I will keep my shovel, trowel, and knife... ;D

Hey, my dad had me to dig all of his targets when I was younger, so I guess I was his automatic digger! ;D

Thank you crashbro17x!

Your update on available technology was what I was seeking.

Thank you!

I'll take a pic of my auger and post it up for you. Try to get it up tomorrow. When you see it, you will understand what I'm talking about...

My type of cure for hard packed dirt or clay is a 3 inch brick chisel and a 3lb. short handled sledge hammer. Works excellent for hard or frozen tundra. Just score an area for the size of your target, pry out square plug and probe with heavy blunted screwdriver in the looser soil in the hole. Works for me. I also found a new use for my cup style Ice auger, though it dulls fast in the hard ground. Also get a battery operated chisel, looks like a drill. A friend of mine has been known to use one of these on occaision. He doesn't like hand chipping soil or frozen tundra........NGE

Thanks NGE!

Yep, I think you have tougher soil than here in red clay/rocks WV!

Appreciate your information.

Here is my digger.......

Nope, sorry.... don't believe it.... You need a pointy shovel for that kind of soil, not a flat one.

~sheesh~ the kind of crap people try to pull over on us good folks-incredible...

Out here, the rocks are as big as trucks, and they start 3 inches from the surface.

You should get one of these first and then get the automatic digger. That way, you can sit on your arse and just watch....... :tongue3:

It's 2015, and technology has yielded amazing products. So far no robotic retriever of metallic objects we detect:dontknow:. Imagine a robotic detector/retriever like the roomba that could be programmed to work for you. You do the research, and then employ the device!:occasion14:

Check out iRobot Roomba Vacuum Cleaning Robot I'm sure this concept would have been considered ridiculous in 1950, eliciting "Get off your arse and sweep the floors, already!"

I'm amazed at the new programmable drones/HD cameras, check out the possibilities including treasure hunting
