AU 1925 SLQ. 1/2 Dozen IH's Plus A Lot More To See. (Updated) Token Closeup

Hey everyone,

Been hitting it hard again. Love this time of the yr. All the spots are died down and it makes getting to those tough areas alot easier. I'm a woods hunter. I hardly ever do lawns. Hunting has been decent the last few weeks or so.

Managed to find a few nice keepers while out. Including a very nice 1925 SLQ. It's funny I went to take a break with my boy. Decided to stop for a minute and share a pop tart with my son. After eating and getting a drink 2 or 3 minutes tops. I turn the unit back on take one step and get a solid 85.

I pinpointed the target it was shallow but not overloading. I stuck the shovel in the ground and before I could pry up the soil I see a disc at the surface just covered in mud. I bend down and pick it up. I said to my son Jake look at this nice SLQ. I could tell by how thick the rim was that it was a good one.

I ended up pulling 9 old coins that morning after about 3 hrs hunting if that. I had 4 indians a token a merc a slq a v nickle and a couple wheats. I was more than happy with the take. That was the best day hunting by far over the last so many trips.

Other than that been hitting a few old coins here and there. Testing some new areas coming up a little short. But that's o.k. That next best site is just a sweep away. I'll give you all a break down of the finds.

6 Indian Heads- 1905 X 3 1901 1903 1883

2 Mercs- 1923 1929

1 1944- Washington

2 V-nickles- 1906 1903

1 Buffalo- 1916

9 Wheat Cents

2 Tokens- 1 Presidential James Monroe Token 1 old market Token A.S.L 72 C.P

Also a piece of sterling that was attached to something. And a nice sterling tie clasp with a dragon type design on it.

A few nice relics were found also. A two ringer .44 cal civil war revolver bullet. Another non fired bullet with a date on the bottom of the shell casing dated 1945 could it be a WW2 bullet. Plus some other odds and ends.

Thanks alot for looking everyone,

HH Jer

Wow, those are sweet finds. Just curious, what are your favorite settings for Frequency, AC, Preamp etc.

Real nice haul! That 1925 Standing liberty Quarter is beautiful...

Re: AU 1925 SLQ. 1/2 Dozen IH's Plus A Lot More To See

Thanks alot guys,

Shrecky I like these settings. I take the eeprrom High pro program and tweak it some. I like the thresh at 5 or 6. I like the sence at 85 at all times. It holds everywhere I go. I like pre amp at 4. Sweep speed on 11 7 3 or 1. They all work well.

I like to accept -40 through plus 95. Recovery speed very important set at 28. I use best data with tone i.d on at all times. I like tone at 200. Vol up pretty high. Sometimes I'll turn modulation on but run it off for the most part.

That is pretty much it. I dig almost anything that breaks the threshold. I hunt the woods and you can dig everything in them without going nuts. Hope this helps some.

Thanks again guys,

See you this week Shrecky

Real nice SLQ Jer!

Pretty rare to find one with the date still readable....

Re: AU 1925 SLQ. 1/2 Dozen IH's Plus A Lot More To See

Jerdfx,

Super Hunt. I can't seem to find a SLQ that is readable. I love Indian Head Pennies, so you are making me jealous. Keep it up.
Jon.

Here they are Rtde,

Couldn't get a great pic of them. After I posted these finds today I cleaned them up. Then labeled and coin flipped them. Notice the one token has the letter B on the backside. I find alot of funny token like this. Can't i.d them.

I think the president token is from the 30's or 40's. I have found them before.

Thanks for all the replies also everyone.

I can usually find one or 2 standing libs per yr. They are either worn smooth or in great shape. I found a few others that were really crisp before to in the past. This is one of the best I ever dug. I got lucky to. In 1925 they resessed the date on them.

It's amazing though. I really thought I had this area cleaned out. And no matter how many times I hunt it. There is something else amazing that pops up.

Great finds. It is obvious that you don't live in NC because your coins are not all eaten up. IH's and wheaties get eaten up so bad by the acidic soil, which sucks. Back in Minnesota and Nebraska, the copper coins came out of the soil looking pretty good. I miss those days, though you can't find the old, old stuff there like you can here in NC.
