On the serious, fakes are really becoming an issue, and I hink it is part of our duty on here to try and help people with the educated eyes the good folks on here possess.I am really seeing a jump in good fakes in the Tongue and Wreath buckles,it is sometimes hard to tell from pics but there is always something that jumps out or at least something that brings doubt.Usually its in the patina(which they are getting very good at as well)Really to bad what our society has come to that nothing is left pure anymore and everybody needs to first look with skepticism.
kuger said:Great points I.P.You are exactly right about the "sellers",I can tell you three right off the top of my head that are selling bogus two piece buckles as we speak(big time guys too).I also can think of at least one that came up on here not long ago that was the guys first post, claimed he dug it and never came back....it was fake as the day is long.I really seen a spike in fakes(T&W's)this last winter and a good friend, and guy that knows what he is doing, fell victim to a sham(from another"friend",that is an expert. That being said I would have fell for it too,but low and be hold recently another one(of the same buckle) surfaced, that is a fantasy piece made by a prominent buckle reproducer.I dont know that he was in on the deal or not,but I do know he and one of the guys that are selling these fakes are good friends....and several of these buckles arent advertised on his repro web site. They have tell tale hints though. If they are repro's of an original, they are easy to crack, its the one of a kind first time seen buckles that are tough!

I 'almost' got taken twice and it was a simple case of not paying close enough attention. It was coins on two different occasions, I took a quick look, one I thought might have been cleaned because something struck me funny, but it wasn't the best picture. The time ticked down and I won for well under what the coin would go for so right away that was a red flag. Once I actually took a better look I knew the coin was fake, and it definitely was, being called as such at the end of the sellers 10 paragraphs! I can't remember what happend in the other case, but I obviously didn't pay for either. Now sellers can't be as cute with their fakes so fools like me who'll just cruise by and throw a quick bid without much thought are safer, but not safe.

Less time on ebay, more time digging and you'll have less doubts about things' authenticity 8).
Why cant the FBI put a stop to the scammers at Liberty Consignment Stores? http://liberty-consignment.com/default.aspxkyphote said:Whether art or coins, counterfeits can and should be reported to the FBI, which is obligated and responsible for investigating. I busted up an eBay ring for selling forged art. The FBI in Atlanta were quick to jump on it.
My brother told me the feds wont bother with internet fraud unless its over $100,000. My guess Liberty Consignment Stores has surpassed that figure but they are still in business. http://liberty-consignment.com/Drop...o_siteid.00dropshopexpress.dlll/EN/Index.htmlIron Patch said:Search Replica watch! LOL I think there's more hits for fake watches than authentic ones. Either the feds they can't do much or don't bother.
I knew that was coming.CRUSADER said:kyphote said:Whether art or coins, counterfeits can and should be reported to the FBI, which is obligated and responsible for investigating.
No FBI in the UK.
Can you help with the Liberty Consignment Store Scam? It supposedly operates out of Marietta Georgia. It probably in Nigeria but you would think there would be a way to stop them. They are using eBay and PayPal logos.kyphote said:I busted up an eBay ring...
