Attention Fat Guys (LIKE ME!)

Monty,
20 years ago I went on Nutrisystem. That was back in the day when they still had real offices where you went in, got weighed, and had a real counciling session. I cheated very little and lost 31 pounds in 30 days. Over the years I've put back a good portion of that. I thought I would try it again, but this send the food and no sessions doesn't work for me.
I'v just called the local Weight Watchers and am going to my first session on Tuesday of next week. I want to lose a pound a week for the next year. lets meet for a salad and a glass of water next valentine's day and show off our svelte selves.
Good luck buddy, I'm there with you.

Fifth day and the scale says I lost ten pounds! Don't know where it went because my belt is just as tight and I still can't see my feet! I may have weighed with my clothes on the first time but don't remember. I started at 230 and now it says 220. That is ten, or at least it was when I was in 3rd grade? And this food? Know what cardboard tastes like? I do. ::) I don't know how long I can stay on this food. Now that I know it is tasteless I think I can go to the store and buy tasteless food much cheaper. I once got dumped by a girl that said my taste was all in my mouth. She had a point, I picked her! Why is it that anything that is harmful to the human body is so pleasurable? Can you name just one thing that is fun that doesn't have the potential to eventually kill you? I can't think of any. Sign me just hanging in there by my love handles. Monty

Nutrasystem is all about the food you eat.

They give you low fat meals.

Be smart about what you eat and you don't need them.

Another thought on going back to judo, pick a really tiny uke that can't throw you. Good looking ones really help, then you don't feel so bad when you land on them! Not speaking from experience there, my uke was always Sensei, lucky we didn't do the throws in WaDo that judo does, otherwise I'd have two bad hips, not just one! ;)

What an easy question. There's ........ uhm ............. uhm ............ well then there's uhm ............. Ok, enough of the trick questions.

Hiya Monty,
You should really look into Aqua Fitness. It's basically a very slow paced aerobics class in water. It's available at most comunity centers under various names. It's very popular with senior citizens and people with arthritis or who are recovering from surgery. You don't need to swim and there is no weight baring or strain put on any joints. A few extra pounds will help you float. ;)
Of course you should check with your doctor before starting any exercise regiment. Good Luck! :)

Daisy, I've done some water therapy but I can't find a health club that will let me join . They all require a physical and I can't pass it because of my prior heart problems. Monty Besides any club that would have me as a member isn't worth joining...Groucho Marx

Oh come now Monty, please don't feel that way. Poo on the health clubs that won't let you join. You don't need them anyway, our ancestors achieved fittness without them. Of course they didn't have the temptations we face this day and age either.

As the age of the restaurant came into focus, apparently it coincided with disappearance of outhouses. I remember a story of an old man that had just installed a toilet in his home and his wife urged him to take her out to the restaruant in town. He sat with a confused look on his face and said "Whats the world coming to when you go inside to take a poop and leave the house to eat"

The old gentleman was right, eating at home is much better for you. Moderation is the key, don't starve yourself, eat what you like but keep the portions moderate, no snacking unless you have sugar problems or must eat with meds. Keep your chin up Monty, do what ever excerise is possible for your current physical ablilities. Doesn't matter what, swing in your office chair, walk to your neighbors, every little motion helps, even if its twitching your foot while watching TV. Just keep moving.

Grasp a positive attitude and outlook, don't focus on what you can't do, focus on what you can do. The can do's will soon out weigh the can'ts. Shoot for the moon Monty, the worst that came happen is you miss and land on a star. ;)

I am actually considering doing a Video for fat people who wish to stay fat,but feel pressured to exercise.
I am so sick of seeing girls that are skeletons with skin stretched over them and society places them on runways and honor them. We women have struggled with societys image of a perfect woman long enough and frankly I am tired of it. What happened to soft volumptious women? Curvacious and sexy.
So my idea is to have a video where we exercise but eat....
Grab your forks everyone....and a pie.
And a one...scoop the pie...and a two ...raise fork...and a three...eat ....make sure that each time you extend your fork arm a little higher to get the full benefits of this exercise.
Now ,while seated at the table....place the bowl of mashed potatoes just out of arms reach....making your body have to lean and stretch in order to reach it.Make sure you exhale when reaching....inhale when pulling. Very good.
I think thats enough of a work out for today...so lets have a pizza break....remember ...same rules as the potatoe bowl...strrrrrrrrrrrrreeeeetttttchhhhhhh....

And I have some little tips....when getting the chocolate chip cookie urge in the middle of the night....jog to the kitchen and eat the first two while jogging in place....this actions confuses the calories and they dont know whether to go or stay

Gypsy! You're a riot! ;D I'm up for that diet! Pass the burgers!
I agree and disagree with your post. A thirteen year old girl eating four crackers a day to look like a photoshop model is sickening. However I believe Monty wants to lose weight for health reasons. Even a few extra pounds can put stress on painfull joints. I myself am considering breast reduction surgery to help my back. HAH! just kidding! Wishfull thinking maybe. :-\ :P ;D

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I would try the YMCA Monty,I dont think they will turn you away. I know at some of them you can pay cash and go just for the day. Also some high schools have open swimming sessions or swimming programs. Even going and walking in the swimming pool once a week would be wonderful exercise with very little stress on your back and joints. Im sort of at the opposit end of the spectrum,Im almost the exact weight I was in high school 22 years ago. I do have a physical job that burns alot of calories plus I dont really eat a whole lot or very often but when I do eat its usually junkfood so Im probably not going to last any longer than a guy who is packing around some extra weight,GL with your diet...Shoot

Monty,
I would be sure to see your doctor before starting any exercise program as you already have health problems. They should be able to reccommend something safe fo you. I think walking might be good.

Although I'm not of the fairer sex Gypsy just described my former lifestyle. With my family I grew up "eating everything on my plate" before being excused from the table. A large appetite was admired and bragged about, especially about how many slices of pumpkin pie with whipped cream you could eat after stuffing yourself with two or three helpings at a meal. Eating was the major social function at any family get together. The more you could eat the more Granny bragged on you and the more they bragged on Momma's cooking. As a teenager and a young adult, all the female family members were always trying to "fatten me up", and worked hard at it. When I came home on leave from the service it was always huge home cooked meals from Mom and all the close-by relatives. We had a heavy family and being skinny, everyone thought something was wrong with you and opined such. My eating habits carried over into my adult live and I even perpetrated it on my kids, two of whom are overweight and one who is a personal trainer and eats healthy. But in spite of all this I never had a weight problem until I hurt my back and have been unable to get around much. Now it has caught up with me and it's killing me just as sure as if I was eating poison. I've been a nicotine and food addict for forty years and now I am paying the price. But now I am resolved to slow the process down some at least. I am 62 and the oldest male in my family ever was 76, my Dad of whom I am a carbon copy. So, without intervention I don't have many years left and I would so love to be around to see my grandkids graduate from school and see what kind of adults they turn out to be. And I can make it if I keep with my diet and self-control just by doing the things that should be common sense. How easy is that? Not very, but only I can make the difference. Monty

First, congrats on the 10lbs lost already Monty!

Just starting a diet for most people is the hardest part, but sticking with it can be just as difficult, especially if the food tastes like poop.

I hope you don't mind if I can make some suggestions from my personal experiences with losing and gaining weight, etc....

For one... drink LOTS of water... when you feel like you've had enough water, take another sip. If you can't hold up a glass of your urine and see through it clearly then you aren't getting enough water in your diet.

Lose the breads, pastas, etc from your diet. Get meats that are high in protein and lower in fat than others. I try to stick with lean chicken and pork. Leafy green vegetables are great and help regulate your poop, haha.

Start taking some vitamins every day. A good multi-vitamin, flax oil, vitamin c, chondrotin, chromium picolonate, haha, sorry if I'm misspelling any of these.

Like somebody said earlier... try your local YMCA. Go walk every morning.... just be active... My local YMCA even has scuba classes... maybe take a class and get certified and then get an underwater machine and find some loot for all of us to marvel at! :):):)

But all of the little things help.... Maybe get some 10lb dumbbells and start doing curls with them while watching tv. It will help boost your metabolism and make the ladies swoon!

I have to deal with this all of the time because I LOOOOOOOOVE food! I challenge virtually anyone on this forum to an eating contest..... I have always been looked at as 'that guy that will eat the rest of your meal if you can't finish it,' so I have always had to workout to lose / keep off any unnecessary weight.

Hopefully you or someone else on this forum found something useful out of my ramblings, haha.

Good luck! :)

bscofield6, My son is a certified personal trainer and has helped me with a lot of the things you have suggested. But so far no ladies have swooned. My son almost swooned when he tried to lift me! He is 5'6" and weighs 190 with only about 2% body fat when he is really working out . He helped train Miss America in his gym. Drinking that much water is hard for me since I drink a lot of coffee and pee it out almost as fast as I put it in. But I do drink a lot of water. Coffee is a hold over from my cop days and I have a problem with leg swelling sometimes, so my doctor said that my coffee was just as good as a diuretic that he would ordinarily prescibe. Without the caffiene I get headaches, but with it I haven't had a headache in 20 years. I went food shopping today and got some soy milk my son recommended and a lot of faw vegies. I like raw vegies and the diet and the doc both said I could eat all of them I wanted. Cooked vegies I can only eat 1/2 cup at a meal. Looks to me like all this diet is is lean meat, vegies, no carbs or very few, no fried foods, emphesis on skinless chicken, broiled or baked fish, very lean red meat in small portions only, no fat cottage cheese and no or low fat everything else. Says I need some fat and oils for my brain function, but very little. Oh, and skim milk. I have all the ingredients so I think I will start fixing several meals and freezing them. I like most of the prepared diet food but some of it really blows. So far so good. Monty
