I have an AT PRO about two months old. Now after I use it for a few minutes it goes psycho. It goes off continuously even if you lift it up in the air. It sounds off and shows different targets and depths. Any one had this same issue? No matter what Setting I have it on, What sensitivity I put or ground balance it dosnt matter.

AUG 1st response

Thank You all who responded I will go thru and see if it helps. Ive done factory reset and frequency changes dosnt help. To IRISHGOLDHOUND actually my problem started when I was detecting in the river and I thought I got water in it. after it dried out it worked fine for a bit and then started acting up again. I am going to recheck and see if its on land too. I have a 2500 so I use it a lot on land and AT in water. By the way if anyones interested I like the GTI way over the AT for coin shooting with its imaging system you can eliminate a lotta junk with out digging it. With experience you can pretty well tell right away if its a good one to dig. Still fools you on lead and some stuff but the imaging really works well.

Well I'm having the same problem right now only difference is I'm ok on land but mine hates the water I believe I have a bad coil and water is getting in where the wire goes into the wire. I've done everything the guys have said on here so I'm gonna give her one more go and if this hasn't fixed it then I definitely will be calling garrett. So this is what I have done...tightened all my connections, took my coil cover off and cleaned all the crap out. Quite surprised how much junk gets in there. That might have solved my prob right their. So try these things. Replace your batteries too I only use energizer. Try resetting your machine to factory by holding the power on off button for about 5 sec till you here a double beep and she will reset herself. Other guys say to tape your coil wire snug to the shaft so it won't false from the wire moving. Very sensitive. Try changing frequencies too. Turn down your sensitivity as well if you are in a zone that has cables around.

Id go down the list
- batteries even if there sayin good change em
- rewrap ur coil wire what works pretty good in keeping my machines stable is goin a foot up straight up from the coil then start wrapping clockwise
-frequency change
-do a factory reset

I have had this happen to mine a couple times, and it waws always something i did with the wire that connects into the base. Sometimes they do some weird stuff...and there are so many little things that can throw it off...A few years ago my ACE 250 did the same thing, and it always "fixed" itself....Garrret is very true on thier customoer service. if the problem continues, you should contact them for sure.

Good Luck

Had the exact same problem with my ATP a few months ago. Mine would give off erratic sounds even when lifted in the air. I read through the troubleshooting guide in the manual (page 50) to get the solution. The threaded connection for the coil wire into the control housing was loose. Once it was tight the problem went away. Here is the link for the manual:

I'd try the things recommended in this thread, but also make sure you're not around powerlines, cellphones, WiFi routers ect. These give off strong emi that could cause similar symptoms.

I would do what Christo has said here and if you still got the same issue after the reset, contact Garrett. Everyone says there CS line is top notch. They should be able to help.
