Ground balance it well and run it on highest sensitivity as possible. And to take it one step further:

For better performance on higher conductors like silver, lower the numbers a bit after ground balancing it. The opposite is true for low conductors like iron and some small gold jewellery, raise the numbers slightly.

Sorry for the dumb question John, but what do you mean by lower the numbers?

I'm not john,but think he's refering to the ground balance numbers after you do a ground balance.

It's called offset ground balance, and canmake the machine more seneitive to low(gold) or high(silver) conductors. In some ground(depends on mineralization) you'll get more depth. In some ground it'll cause falsing or loss of depth.
