AT Pro coin VDI number test

Pretty common numbers across the board for U.S. coins, from what I see.
This harkens back to the days of progressive discrimination. For those who dont remember it, that's where you turn the knob (you do remember konbs, right?) until you just eliminate a certain target. Then, everything above that is good. Old fashioned, yes, but it's still a fine method.

Here it is, a Rule of Thumb for the VDI based AT Pro - if it comes in at 50 or greater, you better check it out.

Personally, the target ID cursor blocks seem kinda redundant. They're peckish and hard to see, although I guess they tell you what you have eliminated. But, if your'e detecting to find stuff you gotta ask yourself: "Why am I eliminating targets again??"

Garrett AT Pro Coin VDI numbers

Tested each coin with at least 6 passes under the coil in STD Zero mode.

Coin tested number reading

Ike $1-----------------------97-99
New small dollar------------ 87
silver half dollar--------------93
clad half dollar---------------92
quarter----------------------88-90
dime--------------------------83
copper Lincoln 1 cent-------80
Indian Head 1 cent----------76
Zinc Lincoln------------------75
5 cents----------------------52-53
War nickel------------------52-53

Sorry if I missed it but did you use the concentric coil or one of the DD's?

The at pro is a great detector but forget about the numbers and go by sound. I have done very well with it doing just this.

fyi i ran my at pro over my 14k necklace and the numbers bounced from 30 to 25 to 14 never went above 30 and my 14 k ring hit as a nickel at 52 53 so does all gold hit this low?

Nope I just found an 18k gold ring & it rang at 68-69

Last summer I got a large 8.6 gram gold band that reads 76 on my AT pro...I found it with my CZ21 and it was a solid high tone which is coins and silver on the CZ...I figure the base metal must be silver...gold readings can be different with rings that are the same size because they can have different base metals.

+1 I agree on this, however the cross reference is useful info. For me, I'm listening to my detector more than watching the display.

I dig everything above 30 but it is fun having a good idea whats coming out. I dont use the numbers to determine whether to dig or not, I just like having an idea what it is.
