Found on farmland this week. can't say too much as they are at the BM in London for conservation etc etc, could be even more than 2000 . They all seem to be late 3rd century bronzes with radiate head. unfortunatly wont know much more for quite a long period but will keep you posted.

That is just one heck of a nice find. Please keep us posted. Congratulations. Wow!

Congrats on making everyone's dream a reality for you. Looking forward to updates and some good close-ups of the coins.

NICE!!!!

Were they in some sort of rotted out container?

WHOA!!! That's amazing. :occasion14:

Wow, awesome find! Hard to tell from the pictures but despite the green, the visible coins appear more like debased but still "silver-looking" mid 3rd century Antoninianus coins than the later essentially bronze ones. I guess you would have mentioned it, but did you manage to recognize any of the emperors on the coins?
l did manage to see one of Gallienus but l didn't get chance to ID any others. I think that most of the coins at that time were only a small percentage of silver. The revised estimate of coins is now nearer 5000. Hutch.

They were in two pots(one pot inside another) and the pots were just barely holding together, having been damaged by roots and also by ploughing, tried hard to get it out in one piece but failed and they spilt everywhere Hutch.

Such and Awesome find, its just unfathomable to me.
I cant help thinking though that this is a dream hoard that Andy, Lance, and the entire DMDC would have been Dancing over, gold or not.. :occasion14:
Congrats and please keep us all posted.

What compelled you to turn over the find? You won’t see it again now that they have it. I wish you’d just kept it opened it and showed us. Oh well. Nice find id vote banner. But it already made banner.

Thanks . it's all for the best to turn over to the British Museum and let the experts deal with them, overall we have a good workable system over here, and there will be a Reward forthcoming. Hutch

Very nice. I was just watching an episode with josh gates. He was searching for King Johns missing treasure and found some really cool stuff. It must be amazing to detect on that side of the pond.
