Hi all. My friend and I detected a Parrot shell a while back. It was tapped and preserved back in the day, but is now starting to flake and show signs of decay. Anybody in the northeast do this type of preservation work? I will deliver and of course pay. Shame for such a cool artifact to be slowly withering away. Thanks, Andy

Wire brush it off and spray it with a clear coat to prevent air and moisture getting back at it

Go on Utube and watch videos on shell preservation with a product called Gemplers. This is a great product that preserves the iron from the inside out. Really works well if you don't mind it turning your shells black. It leaves the iron with a nice low sheen and in my opinion makes the pieces look as they looked back during the war while preserving them for years to come. I treated my Confetrit' 12 pound shell with this and was really pleased with the finished product. Best of luck to you in whatever you decide.
