Hi all!

So I found this Thing on Myrtle Beach, SC (East Coast, US) after a major hurricane. It is 2.25 inches (5.5 cm) in length, 1.75 (4 cm) inches in width. It is shaped like a rodent's head, with Asian-style 'eyes' and large 'ears'. There are three incongruous indentions where a 'mouth' and 'nose' should be (could be random pocks). Between the 'ears', the stone is polished nearly smooth, as though it has been rubbed back and forth with a coarse rope for many years. There is also a very slightly raised ridge between the 'ears', in nearly a straight line (I think that should upload as the third pic).

Any guesses? I've been wondering for thirty years.

Thanks for looking!:hello:

OK seriously its hard to tell by a pic. Paleo, is is heavy and hard like granite? Could it be the remains of a broken fishing weight worn from the ocean?

It IS heavy and hard. Odd: I've got one pic where it totally looks like granite, but in all the rest (and real life) it looks like basalt.

Bigfoot: Thanks for the analysis -- I tried to be as tactful as possible in my response; if I offended I apologize.

I think you may be right about it being biologically-based; it looks and weighs like ancient shark's teeth I've seen. Perhaps a vertebra from something?

But the 'eyes'* appear to me to have been carved. And the wear between the 'ears' -- hard to see in the pic -- looks like it was brought about from some sort of mechanical process.

* I refer to these features as 'eyes' and 'ears' merely to clarify location. I don't know what they are.

Another geologist has weighed in on my Facebook page, and says that he believes it to be a Native American effigy stone. Which makes sense, if you Google images of the things.

Question is: Effigy of what, exactly?

I'm going with 'alien', lol.
