20121221_041839 - Copy (2).jpgI may have to resort to loading pics in multiple posts 'til I figure this site out! Anyway, I'm looking for assistance with identifying these two artifacts which were found in southern Washington state. Any and all info would be appreciated! Thanks!!

Thanks, helping a friend to try and ID these. So are you thinking a knife blade? Sure wish I could get my good full on side view pic of it to load...no luck so far!

That last one has some nice edge work on it. No info for you but they look great. Welcome to the site.

Maybe Kuger will stop by and see them. He might know. I am doing an elk bugle from the top of the hill for him now. Possibly Bosnmate might know as well. Hang in there.

Thanks for the welcome! This loading photos is getting frustrating....everything shot with same camera...al jpeg's..all under 2 MEG...yet I get a "file failed to load" on most of them! Any hints?

hey welcome to TNet

if the pictures are too large they will not load which is my guess as to why they fail
i have a 16 megapixel camera that i cannot get the images to load unless i decrease the size to about 500 X 375
when i use my 11 megapixel camera i can make them twice that big if i wish and they will load

to load multiple pictures on the same post you will still have to load them one at a time but after you load the first picture and you bring up the browse box....
....you will have to click the 'from computer' at the upper left of the box, this will then give you the browse window so you can load you 2nd and 3rd etc images one at a time
i hope this helps

i forgot to tell you that is one ferocious blade you have
i gotta scroll up and look at it again

Those are beauties!Your first one is what we have always called "willow Leaf",not sure if that is the proper name but.......it does look like a Cougar Mtn. too.I have several in obsidian, but cant say I have ever seen one in the type of stone you have!

You second one we have always just called Christmas Trees, there are more "common",in Calif, maybe Bosn can jump in,but I dont recall seeing too many even come from Oregon let alone Washing?

Welcome to TNET!
The artifact in the first photo, maybe it could have been a small knife that was used in body art (tattooing/body scaring). Didn't the Indians in the North West mark their bodies?

Thanks Kuger...appreciate the knowledge! The willow leaf is massive quartz I think, possibly agate?. Were there ever dedicated ceremonial blades or points that would account for being formed from quartz instead of obsidian? As to the Christmas Tree, it was found in the same location, at the same time, as the Willow Leaf point I've been told. I look forward to learning more about these!

When I get over to the ranch I will take a couple pics of a couple I have.Very interesting you ask about the quartz/ceremonial affiliation.......quartz points seem to be quite popular in many parts of the US....why I dont know, its terrible to knap. Here Quartz is everywhere, but points and blades are RARE,I have read Gold Rush Jouranal accounts of the description of burial ceremonies where they had a quiver of arrows with quartz tips, and I know of a Chief,or very special person who was excavated by mistake and was buried (which is odd as most were cremated here)with two Military jackets,a flintlock pistol, thousands of beads,a quartz blade wrapped in buckskin, and 8 quartz arrow heads the cloth, hide, and wood of course was severly disintigrated......at any rate all of it was re buried .......My point is....here at least they were used in a ceremonial capacity
