I found this thing 40 years ago when I was a kid. Under maybe 6 inches of soil about a foot from the foundation of a log cabin built in the mid 1700s. Looks like a fossil that may have seen some sort of utilization. Historical accounts show that there was an attack by Indians on the cabin in the 1760's several settlers were killed. This is the only reason along with the scratches on the object that make me think it might have been used by Indians. it is definitely stone-like and not bone like or anything like that. Anyway to me it just seems logical that if an Indian was already using stone tools in his everyday life and ran across this Fossil I'm sure he would find it useful. Maybe for digging maybe as a weapon who knows? Possibility number 2: the 1750 farmer found it in his field gave it to his kid or whatever and they lost it by the house. As you can see I've had a lot of time to think about it. I'm interested in hearing anyone's opinion.

It looks like a mud or clay concretion, I have found several with odd shapes like that. HH Look here Clay Concretions - New Hampshire
BK

This is one of the most unusual ones I have. Fount along the Ct. river.

Very odd, but I think it's a natural rock that was shaped by erosion over time. I could see an Indian finding it useful to dig roots with it.

I am not totally opposed to the idea of it being natural rock but it is so different from all the other rocks in the valley everything in the area is Pennsylvania sandstone.

It's not natural, well the clay is. It has been fired. I sure it feels heavy for its size. You probably thought it was stone by its weight.

The single one has markings that you can find from the Spanish treasure signs and symbol. Just because someone from the Government says it's from a glacier doesn't mean it's so.

I think it was formed by nature, I don't see the pecking or polishing you see on man made relics. That said, I've found lots of natural stones on Indian campsites that they used as tools. That's a cool piece either way.

Kevin love your Yellow Nape Amazon! I have one too....

I would say it's definitely made by nature. I have been assuming that it's a fossil of some sort. Possibly used by the natives. It seems like most people think that it is a clay concretion. If that's what it is it has a really weird shape for one. It just seems so organic in shape when you're holding it in your hand. It has kind of a concave groove in it on the one side near the inside of the elbow that just reminds me of the place where muscle attaches to the bone. You can see this groove near my thumb in the 4th picture .

Look at this, nature made yet some who find it will swear it is man made when it's not...

That is one wild looking piece. I can't imagine how it got made in nature not that I don't believe you. I can see how people would assume it was man made

My point exactly, but it is nature made...

I just want to thank everyone for their opinions I have learned a lot so far already. I'm not quite ready to say solved yet because in my gut I feel this thing is a fossil. If I'm Way off base someone please let me know.
