I found the arrowhead a few years ago on the Texas Gulf Coast.. Can anyone give me any info on it. Is it a arrowhead or a spear point?

Any info would be welcomed.. Thank you. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1426217849.807709.jpg

Howdy,
Nice find.

What you have there is an Angostura lanceolate. You can get by calling it a "spear point". This was made and utilized well before a Bow.

Our (Texas) coastline turns up a wide variety of points in the Angostura format... Yours leads me to venture an educated guess and label it as a Zella variant.

Dating from apx. 7500 to 6800 BC, most of the leading scholars classify Angostura points as early archaic.

On a side note - In Texas, many notables in the field have published works on the wide range of angostura-similar patterns found... Many, many points are now labeled as "Angostura Anomalies".

Wow!!! Thanks a lot Tejaas!

That's some very good information and it actually gives me chills to think it was made that long ago by man and I now have it in my hand.

I'm very happy to have this information.. Thanks again!

Danny..

Nice find and good to see you still have it.

Beautiful ! I can't really tell what rock that would be made from. It seems there is either cortex or some sort of patina on it.

Thanks for the info Tejaas !

Very nice piece! Thanks for the edumacation Tejass, very interesting stuff

I'm still pretty exited about this... definitely my best find to date.

and one of my first posts.. for the record, i was down fishing on the beach... parked in the sand. i was camping and fishing, parked in the same spot for two days. walked over to my truck for the enth time standing at the drivers door and look down to see this point. must of walked over it ten times.

anyways, old news... i just saw a bunch of artifact threads recently and got me to thinking about it.

That is a great find and don't feel bad about walking over it. When I first started hunting artifacts the guy that was showing me the ropes would pick them up out of my foot prints. Thanks for posting:thumbsup:
