I saw a woman detecting in the park the other day while I was driving by, and maybe it's just my imagination, but there were people all around near her and she looked like she just fit right in......like it was "meant to be". I have gone to that same park in the past and got all kinds of different looks and stares.:tongue3:

You have my permission to comment on this if you would like.

I think as a rule the public trusts women more than men. I also think it is much less likely for a man to heckle or harass a lady. The only issue I could think of that would be a down side is that a woman may be more a target to the predatory elements in our society. Would give anything if my wife had and interest in such things but just not the case. She does have excellent taste in men.:laughing7:

To see someone "staring" you have to be staring back.. just sayin' paranoia is as paranoia does. Plus you probably aren't as cute as she was!

Well, I may not be cute...but I am very observant.:laughing7:

I have no idea why women are viewed differently than men detectorists? :icon_scratch:

LOL!
I hate it when they start perving with the camera phone! Yeah it's the beach, but I still think it's pretty rude to be sneakedly taking pics. :BangHead:
I shoulda asked that guy today did he get some good pics!? Don't post them online! :violent1:

98% of the time, no one pays me no mind. The other 2% they're tourist that wanna know what I found.
No problem in parks either. I've always got some dumb chesire cat grin on my face, and acknowledge folks I make eye contact with, give that little head bob, wave at the carty worker mens. Sometimes they'll come over ask if I found anything, I ask them if they know of anything lost. hehehe
Never been hassled by no one.

Did detect a park in a real bad part of town once, went through that park pretty fast...... :laughing7:
Always gotta be alert!

I have found farmers will give permission to hunt their property ONLY if I have my husband with me. I live in an area that was obviously bypassed by womens lib. sighhhh

MM... that's some funny stuff.

What an insult to us mamabear!

mamabear, maybe the property owner/s are concerned for your safety? Maybe they think you need a man there to protect you? Maybe chivalry isn't dead in Missouri.

On second thought, maybe that's not it.

I don't know about other lady hunters, but I sort of have the bag lady look going on when I'm out detecting, so people are probably thinking I am scrounging money for a bottle or to feed my hoarded cats.

During the years that I did not detect I would see a lady out alone detecting and I would stop and say hello to her and usually have a short discussion about places she should hunt. She was older , maybe mid 60's and very attractive. In fact she was so attractive that somehow i found it odd that she was out alone in an urban environment by herself. She had those pretty girl next door looks and was a well upholstered woman. Maybe she had a carry permit and bear spray in her pocket but she sure was calm out enjoying herself !

Of course - The way of the world, that's all.

I have asked for permission and got a no. My buddya wife will got a week later and get a yes. Lol

Lol! I fit the bag lady profile! I get laughed at but not really bothered! I don't care when I'm out detecting! I wear large headphones but I can hear what people are saying, I choose who I will respond to, and who I won't. I am positive a picture of my backside is on the web somewhere, from all the tourist taking pics of the "crazy lady weed wacking" the beach! Lol!
I think it all has to do with the level of personal confidence one has. I don't mind talking to people about MD'ing but I'd rather being detecting. If someone tries giving me a hard time I will share right back...beware of the quite ones with headphones and a detector, we Do bite, if that doesn't work I have a probe, digging tool, and a long headphone cord! If all else fails I'm packing a cell phone!
