I dug these at a new permission over the weekend. We dug a lot of civil war relics but the property has been active since the 1600s. These items don't look Civil War era to me, especially the 2 buttons. The other piece that resembles a blade is brass i believe but i'm not 100% sure. The designs on it resemble something i have seen on other colonial items. I would love to know what it is but i thought at least someone may be able to date it by the designs. Thanks for looking. Also you cant really see it good in the pics but the flat button looks spun on the back if that helps.

I wanted to mention. If you look at the design closely it looks to be a serpent which was used a lot during colonial times.

The buttons definitely look to be a couple hundred years old, not sure on the other piece.

The buttons are colonial, and the engraving on the other piece resembles 18th century items also.

Your "serpent" has a feathery tail. Looks more like the tail-end of an oriental dragon to me.

This is really exciting because these are the first colonial relics i have ever dug. Thanks.
