I have seen some of these on others posts but not sure what it is. Appears to be brass, some type of button? Site had multiple farms over the years. Had a house at least in the 1850s. Another house there around 1940.

Thought it might be a rivet but appears to be one solid piece.

Thanks.

If it helps I have recently dug a flat button that appears to be from late 1700s to early 1800s.

Didn’t think about that. That’s a good idea. There doesn’t appear to be a hole in either end but the small end has a small pitting but solid inside. Probably a broken off bolt?

We found a lot of these knobs at one site, which seemed curious until I stumbled onto pictures of late 18th century spice cabinets. They were made up of a lot of small drawers, and many used knobs like the one you found. Of course, it could be from all sorts of things but do a google image search of "18th century antique spice cabinet" and you'll see what I mean.

@Lost Signal. Yep, I think you’re right. I found the spice cabinet picture. I was also thinking knobs for a small drawer on a writing desk but the spice cabinet looks to be closer.

@Lost Signal, found this near the pull knob. May also be off of a spice chest.
